So I've decided to splash out on the fancy OPK to try to boost our chances had just been using amazon cheap before. One thing that is confusing me. It says to test in the morning but I though the LH surge was better captured in the afternoon after 2pm. I normally test around 4pm. Anyone know why these ones say test in the morning? How do other people use them?

I used them for the first time this month. The pack says to use urine after your longest sleep, so for me that’s first thing in the morning.

They worked fine and as expected like that for me. I didn’t know about the afternoon theory tbh but don’t think I’d have deviated from the instructions. They are more expensive so I tried to use them as they recommended. :/

OK great. I just used it for the first time this morning. Did you get a smiley face with it?

I've used these the last two cycles & used my FMU. I've found them to be pretty spot on, as when I finally got my peak, the solid smiley I knew I was ovulating as could feel it! I really like these, don't think I'd use anything else x

@cheesybiscuits01 I had the same with CB. Nothing when using my first pee in the morning for three days but had ovulation pains so I suspected I was ovulating. Switched to the afternoon and then flashing faces.

Thanks everyone. I might carry on using FMU but also add an afternoon test too just to see what works for me.

@Cheesybiscuits01 thanks for posting this you read my mind! How have you been getting on with the tests? Did you try morning & afternoon?
Ive just bought these bit have used some other cheaper ones too, I'm trying not to drink too much this afternoon & hold my wee but I do think my wee is so dilute that it won't show LH very well even if it is there! Do you think these are possibly more sensitive? X

Funnily enough the next day I tested in the morning and got a solid smiley. Try doing both if you don't mind using up more tests.

Hi, just thought I'd jump on here as thinking about getting them. I'm currently using amazon cheapy one step, only used tham last month and think they were ok but this is all new to me so I'm not actually sure if I was reading properly whereas the smiley face is more accurate? I've just looked on amazon and a pack of 10 tests (so potentially not even one cycles worth?) Are £20?! Is that what everyone are paying?

KristieP2018 · 01/06/2020 14:38

I’ve used them for about a year and usually test in the morning but you can absolutely test in the afternoon. If you do, just don’t drink anything and do at least a 4 hour hold.

I’ve gotten no peak in the am but peak in the late afternoon. You can always test multiple times a day if you think you’re near your peak.

They are pricey but once you’re getting close to ovulation, I think they’re better than trying to see if the lines are the same darkness or darker.

I use the cheapie off amazon until they darken up then switch to clearblue xx

I'm currently on my first cycle of using them- I ovulate a few days earlier than I thought I did so was good to know- I thought I ovulated days 19 but it was day 16!
