So long story short - we are hoping to TTC our third and final baby.

It's pretty much now or never - certain work opportunities and home finances etc, plus my age. And I'm so broody it's unreal.

My GP won't remove my implant, no clinic within a 20 mile radius will remove my implant.

I've called and hassled and nagged everyone. The last person I called said it'll be well over a year before their clinic is up and running again.

I know this is totally a first world problem. And it's more a whinge than seeking any kind of solution. I just had my heart set on it.

Has anyone else up and down the country managed to get their contraception sorted?

That's ridiculous.

Well, it's not out yet. She said on the phone she'd have to check with the clinic that they're happy to do it (she said on the phone they should with the circumstances) but she had to ask the nurse on duty.

Hopefully they won't ring to cancel. If they do, I'll be furious.

vinotinto88 · 22/05/2020 16:38

@YellowPenny I'll be angry on your behalf. Shouldn't be this much of a drama! I really hope you're appt goes ahead!

You go, OP. Fight the power! Hope you're head isn't too bad over the bank holiday weekend.

I got impatient and cut mine out myself (this was a while ago pre-lockdown). It was fine, but once you push a bit out it’s really tricky to get a good grip of it, so I would advise a second pair of hands. Fingers crossed you get an appointment soon and won’t need to resort to this though.

mumandcub · 22/05/2020 21:59

Hi, sorry I haven’t read through all the comments on here but just wanted to say that I was also in the same boat but managed to get hold of a nurse in my GP practice and explained exactly how it was making me feel, etc. She really did help and I got it out the following week. Is there anyone that may be willing to help at the practice? I know the surgeries can take them out for extreme cases x

vinotinto88 · 23/05/2020 09:50

@yadayadayesokay I need to grow some balls like everyone else and just give it a bash!

OP posts:
vinotinto88 · 23/05/2020 09:50

@mumandcub Well the receptionist guard the doctors and nurses like guard dogs so you rarely get to speak to them but I'll give it one final go on Tuesday.

My fiance removed mine xx

Matilda19 · 23/05/2020 23:34

I wanted it removed nowhere would. Watched you tube million times got equipment and took it out healed no problem x

Bertyb7 · 24/05/2020 17:54

I got mine our privately for anyone looking in London (cycled there) it was £155, Fleet Street Clinic and was a very relaxing experience

Matilda19 · 24/05/2020 18:06

@Bertyb7 wow thats alot. I brought the stuff i needed and my fiance had no issues removing at all.

CharleyFarleyy · 24/05/2020 18:27

Anyone have any idea if a walk in centre would remove it? I suppose if it was causing pain in your arm they would have to?

CaribouCarafe · 24/05/2020 20:47

My implant shifted from its original position and then got embedded in scar tissue - it took almost an hour for the doctor to fish it out with much grunting from their behalf!

Would absolutely not recommend you DIY-ing it. You could do a lot of damage to yourself.

I only convinced my doctor to remove mine by threatening him that if he didn't do it, I would cut my arm open and fish it out myself.

I think unfortunately, your only option would be either a private clinic or just to sound absolutely insane when you next call the GP and threaten self-harm if they don't remove it (but obviously don't actually harm yourself!).

It's shocking how little autonomy we can be provided over our own bodies. It turned me off any longterm contraceptives forever.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 24/05/2020 21:04

I've had the implant and had it taken out when I asked (TTC) but even then there were a lot of 'are you sure' questions Hmm. Err, yes of course I'm sure, why else would I be here?

After dd2 the health visitor kept pushing the coil. I had to get a bit rude to get her to drop it. I was 35, never had an unplanned pregnancy in over 20 years of being sexually active, and she would not stop pushing. Thankfully DH has now had a vasectomy so I don't have to deal with contraception any more. I wouldn't have anything I couldn't completely control, I've heard too many horror stories.

FeelinFagin · 24/05/2020 21:15

@SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito au had the same experience. Doctor, HV and midwives all trying to push the coil on me. We've had 4 planned pregnancies and none unplanned in 16 years of DH and I sleeping together. 22 years if we're counting no unplanned pregnancies since I began having sex

vinotinto88 · 26/05/2020 11:22

GP was meant to be calling me this morning. And still hasn't. Shocking.

OP posts:
YellowPenny · 26/05/2020 12:16

@vinotinto88 I'm rooting for you today!

I haven't had a phone call so far, so hopefully going ahead tomorrow.

YellowPenny · 26/05/2020 12:18

It's also true what PP have said! When I was on the phone I wash pushed the coil as well, had to say no three times!

"Oh but it.. are you sure because.. I think you should"

I'll never get any contraception that I can't stop myself. Fingers crossed for you today!

vinotinto88 · 26/05/2020 13:00

He called and left a voicemail because I was ON ANOTHER BLOODY WORK CALL so I missed it. I was so frustrated.
I called back and he was not available - but the voicemail was hopeful. He said he can do it but I will need to mask/gown up beforehand and he wants to "minimise talking" so wants to discuss it with me first.
I'm quite happy to wear a Mr Blobby suit and keep my mouth shut at all times 😂
So now I'm waiting for another call back. Fingers crossed.
Did you get a date for yours?

OP posts:
CaribouCarafe · 26/05/2020 13:39

Congrats, and well done for persisting! Hope it all goes well for you Grin.

Getting mine out was the best thing ever - within a week I felt less depressed. Also, my periods became normal again (rather than having nothing for months and then suddenly having a very heavy one)

YellowPenny · 26/05/2020 13:40

That is promising news! Finally!
Yes, tomorrow! Here's to hoping.

vinotinto88 · 26/05/2020 15:27

So he called. Went allllllllll around the houses about maybe doing it maybe not maybe he can but not sure when. In the end I said "how easy is it to remove myself" and without thinking he told me alllllllll the ins and outs of removing and it's very simple and safe etc etc.
Then he realised what he had said as I responded "oh well maybe I'll give that a go then".
He then said he would call me back.

And he just has - and it's coming out next week 👍🏻 TTC journey here I come!

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 26/05/2020 17:31

Hurrah!

peperethecat · 26/05/2020 17:34

Haha well played!

What did he say about taking it out?
