So long story short - we are hoping to TTC our third and final baby.

It's pretty much now or never - certain work opportunities and home finances etc, plus my age. And I'm so broody it's unreal.

My GP won't remove my implant, no clinic within a 20 mile radius will remove my implant.

I've called and hassled and nagged everyone. The last person I called said it'll be well over a year before their clinic is up and running again.

I know this is totally a first world problem. And it's more a whinge than seeking any kind of solution. I just had my heart set on it.

Has anyone else up and down the country managed to get their contraception sorted?

@vinotinto88 reading between the lines I think it was most likely a miscommunication from the GP surgery caused by the panic of early lockdown (they were clear that she couldn't come in but I think they would have supplied instructions and equipment if communicated properly). And my friend is not good at self advocacy so just relented! Awful though. And she now has one stitch healed over that will be there forever because she missed it.

vinotinto88 · 22/05/2020 14:26

So I emailed the local minor injuries unit and they've put me in touch with the SAME CLINIC who offered me the bloody pill to counteract the bleeding and told me that they WOULD NOT remove the implant.

The clinician has just said that they do offer same day appointments if you call in the morning. Which is exactly what I did last week.

Furious.

So again waiting for a call back to see if they can see me next week.

OP posts:
vinotinto88 · 22/05/2020 15:28

Urgh they called "wait a few more weeks".

OP posts:
peperethecat · 22/05/2020 15:37

Isn't that what they said to you last time?

vinotinto88 · 22/05/2020 15:38

Yes 😭😭😭

OP posts:
YellowPenny · 22/05/2020 15:40

You're joking?! I find it insane that some are removing them, and others not.
I feel for you @vinotinto88

vinotinto88 · 22/05/2020 15:41

@YellowPenny She said that they have been giving appointments - but I don't meet the criteria. Which just raged me even more. I said ok I'll give it a go myself and she LAUGHED and responded "oh don't do that."

OP posts:
peperethecat · 22/05/2020 15:44

I think I would call back and say that if they won't give you an appointment you will definitely be attempting to remove it yourself because this is damaging your mental health. They need to at least give you a date. "A few more weeks" is too vague. If they said that to you before and you've waited a few more weeks and they're still saying the same thing now then you have no reason to trust them that it will only be a few weeks and not months.

vinotinto88 · 22/05/2020 15:47

@peperethecat I think I'm just gonna give it a go myself this weekend. Been told "two more weeks" three times now.

OP posts:
peperethecat · 22/05/2020 15:53

Maybe try ringing them one last time and really lay it on thick. Say they've been fobbing you off for weeks, you don't believe them when they say another couple of weeks because you've been told that repeatedly now, it's damaging your mental health and if the phone call ends without you having a date in the diary to get it removed you will be taking matters into your own hands.

If you do go it alone, be very careful!

YellowPenny · 22/05/2020 15:54

Did you give your name/ details?
If not, I'd ring up and say a different reason why you want it out.
If you do take it out yourself (and I wouldn't blame you) I'd probably do it outside of A&E in the car. I'm joking, but make sure you can easily access medical care if needed.

user1498572889 · 22/05/2020 15:54

😯

vinotinto88 · 22/05/2020 15:57

Hmm maybe give it another go Tuesday and then do it myself if not.
Absolutely insulting that they've done it for other patients but won't see me.

OP posts:
peperethecat · 22/05/2020 15:59

How do you know they've done it for other patients?

Katierose34 · 22/05/2020 16:02

Hello, I am new on here and in the same position.
I would like to start ttc my 3rd child in the next few months and nowhere will remove my coil just now.

vinotinto88 · 22/05/2020 16:02

@peperethecat She said they have been seeing patients but with a "strict criteria" and apparently I don't meet that. No idea what the criteria is. She also said that the implant doesn't cause headaches so that's not a reason.
This particular clinic was from a family member who said "their friend" got a coil inserted there last week.

OP posts:
peperethecat · 22/05/2020 16:06

Honestly I would ring her up and give her a bollocking. It is not acceptable for her to deny you medical care and frankly it is insulting for her to say that the implant doesn't cause headaches. I've attached a screen shot from the Nexplanon product information page which might help you. Tell her that if she ends the call without giving you an appointment you will be attempting to remove it yourself and making an official complaint about her.

No one will remove it!
vinotinto88 · 22/05/2020 16:09

@peperethecat First symptom. HEADACHES. Honest to god. If I don't have an appointment by Tuesday I WILL be removing it myself.

OP posts:
vinotinto88 · 22/05/2020 16:09

@Katierose34 All I can say is good luck!

OP posts:
FeelinFagin · 22/05/2020 16:15

Get some Numbing cream in ASAP. If you can cut your own skin then I wish you good luck. I couldn't do it myself but good on anyone who can. Go for it!

peperethecat · 22/05/2020 16:16

It would be less outrageous if she hadn't told you that other people have had appointments but you don't meet the criteria. I think I'd be pointing out that as a non medically qualified person she is not in a position to judge whether you meet the criteria or not, and especially when she's denying that headaches can be a side effect of the implant when it is listed as the most common side effect in the guidance issued by the manufacturer.

If it's not too far you could go in and make a scene.

vinotinto88 · 22/05/2020 16:18

@FeelinFagin Thank you I'll make an order 😂

@peperethecat Unfortunately you can't just turn up. On the website it says you have to call when you're outside for you're appointment and then they will come and let you in.

Final shot on Tuesday at calling both the clinic and the GP - who have BOTH been seeing patients. I'll kick off, and if I don't have an appt date on Tuesday then I'll remove myself.

OP posts:
YellowPenny · 22/05/2020 16:19

This is absurd.
Can you not look into going to a GUM clinic a little further out, I'd give them a call and see if anyone else would do it.

She's lying when she says it doesn't cause headaches. I have migraines from periods and the implant is causing me to bleed for 6+ week.. meaning I have on-going migraines for weeks.

vinotinto88 · 22/05/2020 16:21

@YellowPenny I've tried to many clinics - miles out. All say no thus far.
So jealous you're getting yours out!

OP posts:
DesiDiva2020 · 22/05/2020 16:21

I've always thought the implants were pretty horrific as I'd wondered if this would ever be an issue and I'm so sad you're facing it. I also had a friend and hers got 'lost' in her arm and took nearly two hours to get out and her arm was black and blue for weeks.
