Multiple threads! Not the way to go for newcomers.

It really annoys me, especially when I first started on mumsnet with threads that go on for ever, reaching part 10 and 200+ replies.

It makes those who come to this topic looking for inspo really feel as if its never gonna happen if certain folk have been on here chatting away on the same thread for so long.

Make a thread, ask a question but don't go on and on daily on it. It makes others feel left out and also dishearted that it might never happen.

If yous wanna chat day in day out then bloody exchange numbers. Its an information thread not a social club. Or go to another part of the forum which is used for chatting/general chat. And these people who have been on it for ages are so dismissive and rude to newcomers. Piss off.

I think that’s enough internet for you if you want answers or people to talk to then start a thread. It’s that simple

Mumsnet is the only social life some of us have at the moment. Long running multiple threads are familiar places to hang out and chat to like minded people, especially the brexit/prepper ones.

To me there's nothing worse than the "am I pregnant? Can you see a line?? I've taken eleventy billion tests (that are all either negative or positive) but I'm still not sure"

I can't figure out how to hide topics on the app but you can hide threads you don't like the look of. I hide all the lines eyes please! ones.

Don't police the forum, just use it how you want to use it and hide what you don't want to see 🤷🏼‍♀️

Oh and there's a newbies corner. Although maybe flouncer's corner might be better? I'm not surprised you've not been welcomed with open arms telling people to piss off.

In my experience I’ve always found people on the conception board some of the most welcoming.

When you’re trying to conceive for most people, they don’t tell anyone in real life, so MN is the only place they can talk about it.

As for some threads reaching lots of posts, it’s not always because of people it’s not happening for. Sometimes an old thread could be resurrected many times over the years, sometimes it’s because there’s lots of people on it. I’m on the May bus which is on the 4th part. It’s not an old, ongoing thread (only been going for May) but there’s a lot of people on it. We ask each other questions all the time about TTC and if we posted a new thread every time we had a question it would be a bit ridiculous. Also as I said before, these boards are a social place when TTC and if you find a group of girls you like you might stick with them. It’s difficult swapping numbers because there’s always a risk of ending up knowing the person. MN is anonymous which people like.

There are lots of TTC boards for people new to Mumsnet. On the May bus we’re a friendly bunch and don’t judge so I know you’d be welcome there.

Really OP? Not all threads are just asking a question, they’re there for discussion and support, the whole idea is that they keep on going. MN is such a good place to speak with others and share experiences, so yes, some threads go on longer because people discuss the original topic and then stick around. You can see the amount of replies on the thread before you even click on it, if long threads aren’t for you, simply ignore them. Yes it can sometimes feel a bit awkward jumping in on a long thread but others generally welcome new joiners, if this bothers you, just join a new thread with a few posts or start your own. Don’t judge other users for using MN for exactly how it was intended.
