TTC - have I missed ovulation for a second time?

Hi ladies,

It is our second cycle TTC and I'm so confused and wondered if anyone could shed any light.

My cycle tends to be 28 days, very occasionally 26 but usually 28. I'm using Glow and Flo and both say I'm due to ovulate tomorrow (day 15). I always notice loads of CM at the start of my fertile window (day 9/10) but by yesterday (day 13) it had virtually gone.

I've used OPKs twice or three times a day both cheapy kits and clear blue and none of them have detected an LH surge - I've been doing this since day 12 (so after the CM had started).

My worries is based on my CM drying up by time I'm due to ovulate is perhaps I'm ovulating early? We are BDing every day from day 13-15 but I'm worried I've missed the window and perhaps I ovulate when my CM is at its peak around day 9/10 if that is even possible.

I am early thirties and very fit and healthy with light periods and have been off the pill for two years.

Thanks so much

Cola X

You're best to start much earlier and have sex every other day from the end of your period until a few days after you're sure you have ovulated. Sperm lasts for 7 days in the body but the egg only 1 day. Ejaculating every other day in the run up to ovulation also helps ensure a good quantity of fresh sperm by ovulation day.

I didn't detect a surge the month I fell pregnant. I had been using eBay cheapies and it was my first month with clear blue. I even emailed clear blue to tell them that the ovulation kit was faulty 🤷🏻‍♀️🙈

If I were you I'd be having sex every other day from day 7 or 8 up until around day 18 so you don't miss ovulation. It's a bit hit and miss relying on opks as some women will ovulate as soon as the surge is detected and some not until 48 hours later. Also I read somewhere that as we get older the hormone that indicates we are about to ovulate might not be detected in urine until after ovulation. Your ovulation day can also change from cycle to cycle. Personally I can ovulate anywhere from day 10 to day 17. Google 'the sperm meets egg plan' as this could be useful for you. Good luck!
