Regulating an irregular cycle

Hi guys

I've always had irregular cycles. Managed to conceive my first very easily - it was literally just luck that we dtd at the right time on the first month we decided to "stop being careful". I couldn't believe my luck as I had always assumed (due to being irregular) it would take ages to conceive.

Roll on 4 years later and I am on cycle 8 TTC #2. The irregular cycles are becoming an issue. They've ranged between 32-40 days in the last 8 months. My DH and I both have very full on jobs and with a toddler to look after we don't have much time/energy for dtd just for fun like we used to. It would be really great to have a more regular cycle so at least we can be sure we we are dtd at the right time. I think we often miss the critical time as I've got a feeling I ovulate very quickly after ovulation (rather than 24 hours like most others) and so by the time I get a positive opk it's too late.

This month we are trying to cover all bases before I get a positive opk and we have dtd for 8 days straight but I fear we will run out of steam soon. I'm doing Opks have had a few high readings but it fluctuates and my readings yesterday were back down to low so looks like we'll need to keep going for a while yet with dtd.

Does anyone know if there is anything that a GP can prescribe to make cycles regular?

Hi, some women are spot on many aren't. Are you checking your cervical mucus (cm)? You'll notice that you get EWCM (egg white cm) a couple of days before ovulation and that's the best time to have sex as the mucus is most favourable for the sperm to travel and survive. Some women get a lot and see it when they wipe, others have to do internal checks. You could try and take Agnus castus to regulate your cycles up to ovulation. Or evening primrose oil to increase your cm. Maybe that's something to look into?

Also meant today, it's best to do a couple of OPKs thought the day as it's easy to miss the spike. I too ovulate very quickly after a positive OPK.

I just track my CM and as soon as I get egg white crack on with DTD every day until it’s gone! I usually get egg white for about 4 days before I ovulate. Cba with the faff of OPKs! Not everyone gets a lot of egg white though so won’t necessarily work for everyone. My cycles are long too (33-35 days) and I usually ovulate anywhere between CD19-CD22.

Thanks a lot for your replies. Most months I do get some EWCM. However, some months I must have 2 hormone spikes so for example I got quite a bit of EWCM last weekend but still had negative OPKs. If I wasn't doing OPKs I would've assumed that I had ovulated and would've stopped dtd. I rather suspect I will ovulate first sure next week with a little EWCM and a positive OPK. I hate the second guessing though!!

@NoCallerID I haven't looked into Angus Cactus or Evening Primrose. Thanks for the heads up, I'll do some research
