Hi guys,

This is my first post on mumsnet. I have recently stopped taking the pill (microgynon) on 22/04/20 and i had my withdrawal bleed from 24/04 to the 27/04. I am now waiting for my 1st period which is due in just over a week. My and my OH have decided the time is right and want to TTC just wondering if there is anyone else in the same boat on here 🙂

Anyone TTC and fresh off the pill
MintGreenLife · 21/05/2020 12:08

Eeek so exciting Rainbow!! We didn't TTC the first month after I came off the pill and now I'm like 'oh no, have we missed a good opportunity' Grin - so silly! This is my second cycle off the pill as AF arrived 30 days after stopping, so hoping I catch ovulation which should be in about a week now.

So pleased for you, such fab news xxx

Rainbow1808 · 21/05/2020 12:26

I caught really quick with DC1 after stopping the pill too but didn’t think I’d be that lucky this time so I just went for it again straight away! I didn’t have a withdrawal bleed so after about 2 weeks I thought it was going to take a little longer this time! But thanks so much, hope your get your BFP soon!! Xx

Rainbow1808 · 21/05/2020 12:26

@MintGreenLife wouldn’t let me tag you at first xx

MintGreenLife · 21/05/2020 12:29

I'm having the same problem and can't tag you either Rainbow 🙄

Thanks so much. That's so brilliant for you 😘

Luxc90 · 21/05/2020 12:44

Hi everyone!

Similar situation - wedding postponed until next September. Had a chat with OH and now TTC for the next few months. Have been on cerelle (mini pill) and stopped 16/5. Had a few days spotting then nothing apart from some clear mucus discharge. Started using ovulations sticks but no line so far. Today had cramps but no bleeding :(

Anxious wait now for AF!

misseb89 · 24/05/2020 23:00

Congratulations @Rainbow1808 !!!

JBCG · 25/05/2020 21:45

I was going to start a new thread but then thought I'd ask you lovely ladies first!

As I didn't have any periods when I was on the pill, I have absolutely no idea when I typically ovulate.

I've had my first period (36 days after I stopped taking the pill) which was fairly consistent with my pre-pill cycles which were 34-36 days long. So this is our first real month TTC but I'm not really sure as to timings.

Please could I ask what the best ovulation tests to use are?

Gizzy23 · 26/05/2020 14:23

@JBCG i have started using the Clear Blue ovulation tests, this is my 1st proper month TTC after coming off the pill and i wanted to make it easy to understand and not too stressful. These are digital and are super easy to read they just have a smiley face come up and you only tests once a day. The only downfall is they are pretty expensive i got them from Amazon

@JBCG Welcome! I bought the femometer ovulation strips from amazon, I think they were £10 for 50 and downloaded the app for them. So far I've found them pretty easy to use, when you've taken an opk you can take a picture of it on the app and it works out if you're at high or peak, now I did find that with the fainter lines it didn't pick them up at all, but with my peak it worked well. I tested once a day from the end of AF and then when I got a high I tested twice a day to make sure I didn't miss my peak :-) Best of luck in your TTC journey!

KatieG200394 · 27/05/2020 08:04

@JBCG I bought easy@home ones and Femometer ones off Amazon, but I did find that the line on the easy@home ones shows up better and is easier to see than the Femometer ones xx

Morning everyone :) I wanted to ask if anyone has been off the pill for more than a month or two now? This is my second natural cycle on the pill, and I should have ovulated by now going on my first cycle which was 30 days, but I haven't. Was just wondering if anyone has any experience with fluctuating cycles fresh off the pill, or late ovulation? Thanks x

Luxc90 · 27/05/2020 10:54

@MintGreenLife what cycle day are you on now? I've read a few women on here with very irregular cycles since stopping the pill, incredibly frustrating I can imagine 😤

MintGreenLife · 27/05/2020 10:58

CD17 now and no sign of ovulation. I totally get that because my cycle length was 30 days last time around now would be quite normal for ovulation, but I'm checking my cervix position which is low and hard, i.e non fertile, and OPKs haven't got any darker at all. If I was going to ovulate soon would expect to see some changes to my cervix and OPKs surely, so feel like it's probably not just a day or two late like I hoped. But on the other hand I did have EWCM four days ago...all very confusing! x

MintGreenLife · 27/05/2020 10:59

@Luxc90 message above, I always have issues with being able to tag the last poster for some reason xx

Luxc90 · 27/05/2020 11:07

@MintGreenLife I've tried the cervix feeling but just can't get the hang of it, scared of rooting around up there and hurting myself lol! My opks never really went high apart from CD12, then I had a peak on CD13, assuming ov on CD14 then went right back to very faint lines CD15 and I tested a few days after just to be sure. I think some woman have low lh until right before ov and others seem to have a more steady build up. If this cycle isn't successful I'll see how next one is. Fingers crossed you're just having a one off once cycle of late ov! I'm in the TWW now, already finding myself day dreaming of babies and annoucing my pregnancy 🙈 x

MintGreenLife · 27/05/2020 11:14

It's pretty daunting checking your cervix isn't it! I have to say it does freak me out a bit. I only started about a week ago, mostly because I was confused by what was going on with getting EWCM but still getting negatives on OPKs. I use the premom app and that gives you a level for your OPKs - I've never had anything more than 'low' so don't think I could have missed my peak as never even seen an increase on them at all. I do wonder that every now and then - am like 'did I actually ovulate around the time of EWCM and am I now in the TWW' but I really don't think that's the case.

Aww it's so hard not to get carried away isn't it! How long into the TWW are you? Is this your first cycle after coming off the pill? I'll carry on with OPKS for now, but am finding it a bit disheartening seeing the same result day after day ha x

MintGreenLife · 27/05/2020 11:14

@Luxc90 ^^

Luxc90 · 27/05/2020 11:23

@MintGreenLife definitely isn't going to be one of my checks that's for sure! I didn't even know ewcm was a thing until I joined here, now constantly checking the loo roll 😂. Yeah I'd stick with the opks and I'm sure it'll come eventually it is definitely hard to not be disappointed especially when I feel anyway I've spent my adult life preventing pregnancy and it isn't as simple as I thought! oh goodness I've done that too, just last night I was in bed thinking, what if that peak was a faulty test and I'm not actually in the TWW 😂 I think having no work due to lockdown is making my thoughts run a lot. I'm 6dpo now, so planning to hold out until 14dpo to test but Sunday is my wedding anniversary I'll be 10dpo then, it'll be hard not to test 🙈

MintGreenLife · 27/05/2020 11:28

Ha me too! That's where I've found it - on the loo roll. I always curse myself after I've been for a pee and forgot to have a quick look, so ridiculous. I think for now I'll keep checking my cervix as don't feel to bad with it, and may give me an early indication that ovulation is coming before the OPKs pick anything up.

Haha it's so hard not to let your thoughts get carried away. I'm fairly certain I'm not in the TWW, but maybe if I haven't got AF or positive OPK in a couple of weeks I will do a test just to be sure.

Congrats on your wedding anniversary :) that would be a lovely surprise if you did get a positive on the day, but also quite possible you would see a negative even if you are pregnant so probably best to wait as you say to avoid disappointment :)
