Anyone TTC and fresh off the pill

Hi guys,

This is my first post on mumsnet. I have recently stopped taking the pill (microgynon) on 22/04/20 and i had my withdrawal bleed from 24/04 to the 27/04. I am now waiting for my 1st period which is due in just over a week. My and my OH have decided the time is right and want to TTC just wondering if there is anyone else in the same boat on here 🙂

@KatieG200394 @MintGreenLife I'm in a similar situation as both of you. Our wedding was planned to take place at the end of June, but has been cancelled. We had also intended to start TTC #1 as soon as we were married, but no idea when that will be able to take place now so we've decided not to postpone TTC - I could always squeeze a baby bump into my wedding dress

I came off Cerazette in January after 10 years, my cycle returned to normal in 2 months. I missed the May boat (CD21), so am awaiting AF to arrive (20th/21st) and then we'll begin TTC.

@LittleMissBlatherskite sorry to hear you've had to postpone your wedding, but exactly, I think its quite exciting that there may be a baby bump or a baby at the wedding when they do get to go ahead, good luck to you too hope everything re wedding and babies works out for you soon ☺ xx

@LittleMissBlatherskite I'm in another thread 'New to mumsnet, TTC cycle 1 club' and there are lots of us in there in the same situation and have all come to the same conclusion to start TTC instead.

Do you have any ideas for when you might rearrange the wedding to? My OH has asked a few times now when we might be able to have the day and every time I try and work it out it gets so complex as all depends on when we conceive and how pregnant I'd be happy to be on the day! I'd rather just go with the flow and see what happens, but he's keen to pencil a date in...

@MintGreenLife I definitely need to find and join that thread! We're waiting to see what happens with the COVID restrictions and TTC. OH would like us to be married before any babies arrive, if we were lucky enough to get a BFP in the next few months I think we'd have a very last minute intimate wedding and a big party on our first anniversary. If we haven't conceived by the time restrictions are lifted we'd probably stop TTC for a little while and plan the big dream wedding.
It's so difficult to predict or plan anything ATM. We're just going with the flow.
Fingers crossed that your September wedding goes ahead!

Does anyone know whether it is likely I’ll ovulate this month, after having come off the pill and had a withdrawal bleed, now on CD 15 if counting from start of withdrawal bleed. Or is it a totally lost cause until I have another period? We’ve been DTD at least every other day since what would be CD 6. I just don’t know whether to count this time or if it totally doesn’t count? I’m not using OPKs or anything like that yet.

@LittleRa I came off the pill on the 7th of April, breakthrough bleed from the 11th-14th, then got first natural AF this Monday just gone (11th of May) and I think I possibly ovulated during the first cycle after stopping my pill. I wasn't using OPKs at this point, but tracking CM and got EWCM around half way through my cycle, so you may ovulate :) generally advice is that it could take a few months for your cycle to regulate, but that doesn't necessarily mean you won't ovulate. Some women get pregnant straight after coming off the pill. Of course I can't say specifically whether you will or not. Have you been tracking CM or anything?

@LittleMissBlatherskite we are thinking of doing the exact same! If proper 'wedding' can't go ahead this year, we were hoping to still have the ceremony on or around the same date, and then the wedding party a year later, ideally on the anniversary. Hopefully a baby or bump will fit in with all of this!

Hi @LittleRa. I came off the pill in March and had my withdrawal bleed and then I ovulated after that and had my first normal period about 30 days after the withdrawal bleed. I didn’t track ovulation but had EWCM and all the signs pointed to ovulation so I think you can.

Hi @MintGreenLife. I spoke to you on another thread about vitamins and things but you hadn’t decided whether you were going to TTC then. We have a new date for our wedding next summer now but are still hoping for the ceremony on our original date in July if we can. I got a BFP this morning which is very exciting so if it sticks, I will have a baby at our wedding next year!

Thanks for the replies about ovulation after withdrawal bleed. I haven’t tracked any ovulation symptoms or used OPKs or anything, I’ve been on the pill for around 6 years since I had my DD (and was on for over 10 years before that!). I didn’t want to get too obsessed with tracking symptoms too early on ha ha just to try DTD every other day, but I didn’t know whether this first month would even count or if I had to wait until after a natural period.

As far as symptoms go, since coming off the pill I’ve had some constipation and bright yellow (like nearly neon!) urine. I think they could be to do with the folic acid and vitamins though?!

Yep we've decided to TTC now :) a few things changed - we were hoping the update from Boris on Sunday would help us work out what we were doing, but no such luck. Then I got AF on Monday. As we were waiting for my first natural period before TTC anyway, I hadn't really wanted to throw trying to decide anything about that into the mix too, as read it can take a while to come back. But then I got AF and after Sunday being no use we decided we would just go for it and hope the wedding etc would slot in some way or another.

@LittleRa it's highly possible you could have ovulated, sure as your DTD every other day you wouldn't have missed it if you did :)

Hmm I've not found that personally from folic acid, what else are you taking? I just take folic acid and vitamin D, but I've been taking vitamin D since the start of the year now. Maybe if you're taking a lot of supplements all of a sudden your body just needs time to adjust?

@LittleRa I had bright yellow urine too and it was linked to one of the vitamins in my Pregnacare preconception supplements! I changed from those anyway and it stopped.

@mintgreenlife It was our second cycle of TTC but the first month after I’d had a proper AF. We have been very lucky.

@ZRS86 that's brilliant :) this will be out first cycle of TTC and as I mentioned I've had my proper AF now. I ordered lots of OPKs yesterday and a book about conception, excited to get going.

Glad someone else mentioned about the bright urine on the Pregancare tablets - caught me out the other day!

We're going with the stopping trying to not have a baby and see what happens! With our first I came off the pill for health reasons at the time, we were thinking about it anyway so thought we could see what happened, and was pregnant within 3 months. Wondering if this time will be the same.

Hi ladies how are you all? I got a peak on an opk today, so pleased to know ovulation is happening! Took my last pill on 3rd May. Soon be in the TWW, eek!

Hi! I’ve taken these tests this morning but not 100% sure so going to wait a couple of days and retest. Took my last pill 28th April! It happened this quick with DC1 so hope it’s happened again!

An update from me - CD63, still nothing from AF. My natural cycles app just keeping pushing back its estimations for AF starting every time I enter a temperature. Also got my ovulation test sticks now so have tested each day, no positives from CD 56 onwards.

Came off Cerazette on 18th April and AF came 3 days ago. We're TTC DC2. I got my BFP with DS just five weeks after coming off cerazette and so didn't have a period before getting pregnant so it was quite hard to date the pregnancy.

I haven't got any ovulation tests but think I might because I have no idea what my usual cycles are like after being on the pill for several years!

I've got myself in a bit of a panic about secondary infertility this time (I think it's because we were so lucky with DS I'm sure we can't be again). But wishing baby dust on us all!! x

@Luxc90 Its good to hear that you got your peak today. I have just started my 1st AF since coming off the pill had my withdrawal bleed on 22/04 so worked out i had a 26 day cycle so not too bad at all. Got some ovulation tests and going to start on CD7 i think 😄

@Rainbow1808 Ah congratulations thats amazing news. I did a test yesterday and got a BFN and then few hours later AF turned up was so gutted. I had only been off the pill since mid April though so proper month of trying here we come. I am so pleased for you i will be sending loads of baby dust to you...

Wow it happened really quickly the 1st time for you as well just like rainbow, must be that type of pill. Don't worry i am sure it will happen just as quickly but i will keep my fingers crossed 🤞🏻
