Dtd timing

How much do we really need to dtd ?

Had a positive opk this morning so dtd then and again at lunchtime. I just can't go for a 3rd round!!

Opk is slightly lighter this evening so I guess the peak has passed. Do we still need to do it tomorrow to maximise the chance?

I wouldn't do it more than once a day. There is a theory that the man needs to "recharge" his swimmers, and if there's not enough time between ejaculations then the sperm subsequently released aren't as mature/strong/fertile. Personally I would do: day of positive opk and the day after.

To answer your question though, if you can muster up the energy then definitely try to do it tomorrow too!

Your best chances are 2-3 days before ovulation and the day of ovulation, the day after is much much less likely (zero chance if you're accurate at knowing when exactly you ovulated but since that's pretty much impossible most healthcare providers recommend you consider the day after ovulation a potentially fertile day, just to be safe). Dtd every day is more than enough and only marginally better than dtd every other day, multiple times a day really isn't going to help much so only go for that if you want to!

hope that helps OP

Yeah, I wouldn’t push yourselves for more than once a day unless you really want to! Have you looked into the Sperm Meets Egg Plan for timing?

Thanks all.

@Dollywilde no I haven't read that. We got lucky with our first and got pregnant first month so it's a bit of a learning curve this time.

Hi, we are ttc our first baby - this is our 5th cycle ttc - we tried to follow the smep plan this month and have used preseed - I ran out of OPK tests on Sunday! So we covered ourselves and we dtd on cd8, cd10, cd12, cd13, cd14, cd15(tests arrived and received a positive OPK) cd16 & we will do it again today / tonight to cover ourselves.... hoping it'll work this month as we've covered ourselves quite well and we've been trying to leave it 24hrs between each time we dtd to make sure sperm quality is good etc x

I was trying for 13 months then we stopped trying and got pregnant, no idea when ovulation was and only had sex once, try to relax as much as possible and it'll probably just happen (used to hate it when people said that to me) but it did work!

Dollywilde · 06/05/2020 11:59

Might be worth looking at then - I found it quite helpful as a guide to how often we ought to be DTD! spermmeetseggplan.com/

Multiple times a day probably isn't much better than once a day or once every other day, especially if it's stressing you out!

I got a bfp after only DTD once or twice over my fertile window, so it is possible :)
