Anyone tried Soy Isoflavones?

So as the title suggests...

I’ve been ttc Since last September, suffered a loss at 8/9 weeks in January this year, and then a chemical in March.

One thing I did notice with my cycles is that I seem to ovulate really late, like cd22. Making my cycles usually around 37 days.

Being in my late 30’s already I read up about ways of regulating your cycles, bringing ovulation forward etc and came across lots of stuff about soy isoflavones.

So I picked some up ready for the start of this cycle. Did loads of research about when to take it, doses etc as it’s supposedly like nature’s clomid.

You can either take it cd1-5, cd2-6, cd3-7, cd4-8, or cd5-9. The earlier in your cycle you take it your body will produce more eggs but they won’t be as mature, the later you take it you will only produce one good egg but it will be the best quality. That’s the general gist. Most women opt for cd3-7 as it gives the best of both worlds. Produces a few more eggs, and all are of good quality.

Deciding that taking it on cd3-7 would suit me best I started it this cycle. In all honesty I thought perhaps it might bring ovulation forward a day or 2 or that I wouldn’t see any difference.

BUT, after noticing much more ‘wetness’ (sorry for tmi) down there, I decided to start taking ovulation tests from yesterday (cd13) and track what was happening.

To my surprise I got a decent line, and then today cd14 is not far off a positive. In fact I will test again later today incase this is my peak!

Could be coincidence, could be just another surge in my cycle etc. But in all the time I’ve been ttc I have never had any kind of decent line on an ovulation test this early in my cycle. Definitely not banking on getting my bfp or anything from it, just so excited that I might have actually managed to bring my ovulation earlier and might get a more ‘normal’ cycle length!

Just wondered if anyone else had any experience of trying it?

I just wanted to post, I've done 2 cycles of soya isoflavones on days 3-6 and got my BFP! I can't say if the two are linked but I definitely think it helped!!

@LottieX ah massive congrats! Did you ovulate earlier? Or have any other symptoms etc x

LottieX · 07/07/2020 09:07

@VP91x

Thank you 😊

I don't think I ovulated any earlier (mine has always been around day 14/15). Before taking it I didn't really have any peak OPK readings in the 5 previous cycles, so I mainly took it to see if it could increase the quality of the eggs and get a stronger reading....no idea if that works or not!

I had no side effects and my OPK charts went from 50% readings to 200%! I took 120mg for 2 days and then 160mg for 2 days.

VP91x · 07/07/2020 09:39

@LottieX ah that's brilliant, sounds like it really had a positive effect on you. I hope you have a healthy and happy pregnancy ❤️

@AnxiousAnnie86 how are you getting on? X

Tink2019 · 26/07/2020 22:20

Hi ladies, sorry to jump in, but just wondering if any of you have noticed issues with your bbt post O (if you chart of course) when taking soy isoflavones? Took them this month to bring forward O - had positive OPK CD15 (last month was CD26!), but have had no temp shift since so wondering if it's messed with progesterone... or maybe that wasn't a proper surge... or this is an anovulatory cycle 🤷🏼‍♀️ Been TTC since last year, so starting to feel a bit defeated x

VP91x · 27/07/2020 06:45

Hey @Tink2019 I wish I could give some better advice, however last cycle was my first time on SI and I have just found out I have PCOS, my cycle was anovulatory last month I think as didn't see a high temp rise. I have read that even without pcos etc. about 20% cycles can be anovulatory which is frustrating xx

Tink2019 · 27/07/2020 07:45

@VP91x I read that too - as if TTC isn't hard enough already!! I took 50mg B6 yesterday and have actually had a huge temp shift this morning (very different to my usual slow rise)! So now no idea if I actually did O but it took a few days for progesterone to work or my body to respond to progesterone OR the B6 has caused the temp shift. TTC is just one big guessing game 😩

VP91x · 27/07/2020 09:56

@Tink2019 sometimes you also get a peak but then don't ovulate until a couple of days after. Apparently 12-36hours is the average, would that coincide? I'm not sure about the B6 have never looked into it, what does it do? . Xx

Tink2019 · 27/07/2020 11:10

@VP91x I've attached my chart - maybe the temp I took yesterday was not quite right for some reason because looking back this chart would then look quite similar to previous charts with a more gradual rise. B6 is said to help with extending luteal phase - mines not necessarily short but a few have been. Think adding soy isoflavones and B6 this cycle probably wasn't wise, should've tried one first I think...time will tell I guess! Where are you in your cycle? x

Anyone tried Soy Isoflavones?
VP91x · 27/07/2020 14:45

@Tink2019 hmm, maybe you did ovulate yesterday or it could also be a good thing your temps have shot up like that! I'm on CD5 now, not taking the soy iso this month as just want to see what happens naturally again. Will just temp and do OPKs and hope for the best! I got referred to a gynae for the 16th Sept so that's a positive thing if nothing happens this cycle xx

Tink2019 · 27/07/2020 17:10

@VP91x oh that's great - hopefully you won't need it though 🤞🏻

Tink2019 · 07/08/2020 08:01

Just wanted to give a quick update as know how frustrating it is when you stumble across threads and you're left hanging. I took soy isoflavones (just the Tesco ones) for the first time this month - I took 120mg CD 5, 6 and 7 (had blood work so couldn't start before this) then 120mg CD 8 - all taken before bed. I didn't take any CD 9 as I had a migraine. I ovulated CD 18 which was a bit earlier for me (I'm normally quite irregular, cycle before I didn't ovulate until CD 25) and then took 50mg B6 from the day I O'd. This morning I got a 'Pregnant 1-2 weeks' reading on a ClearBlue (really praying it sticks 🙏🏻). We were coming up to a year of trying and I'd been prescribed Clomid - decided to try SI first though...very glad I did!!

restingbface · 11/08/2020 14:03

Hi everyone, currently CD1 so going to try soy isoflavones this cycle. Just wondering if anyone had any more success stories 🤞🏼 Xx

AnxiousAnnie86 · 11/08/2020 14:37

I've just gone onto my third cycle using soy, I've taken them 3-7 on cd 8 now, really hoping it works this month xxxo

VP91x · 11/08/2020 14:59

Hi @restingbface I only ended up using them for one cycle as I found out I had PCOS. So not meant to be ideal to use. Hopefully going on clomid next month 🤞 just waiting to see gynae x

Moandy · 11/08/2020 21:35

Hate to say it but never worked for me. I tried all sorts but the one cycle which worked I didn't try anything!

Boc86 · 12/08/2020 07:19

I’m considering trying this as I ov cd19-21 but I then have a short 9 day LP so is it not recommended?

AnxiousAnnie86 · 12/08/2020 08:33

I don't think they are working for me, my ovulation can be irregular and it seems to of kept it between 19-23 rather then 17-26 but thays the only thing xx

Chanel05 · 12/08/2020 09:53

I used them for 5 cycles and they didn't work for me. They just made my cycles longer!

Dancingfairydreams · 24/08/2020 09:20

Morning all, looking to try these again this cycle, does the below look about the tight dosage? I have the Holland & barrett ones which are 23mg iso per capsule. Today is day 3, so any advice greatly received. Many thanks

AnxiousAnnie86 · 24/08/2020 09:22
