Anyone tried Soy Isoflavones?

So as the title suggests...

I’ve been ttc Since last September, suffered a loss at 8/9 weeks in January this year, and then a chemical in March.

One thing I did notice with my cycles is that I seem to ovulate really late, like cd22. Making my cycles usually around 37 days.

Being in my late 30’s already I read up about ways of regulating your cycles, bringing ovulation forward etc and came across lots of stuff about soy isoflavones.

So I picked some up ready for the start of this cycle. Did loads of research about when to take it, doses etc as it’s supposedly like nature’s clomid.

You can either take it cd1-5, cd2-6, cd3-7, cd4-8, or cd5-9. The earlier in your cycle you take it your body will produce more eggs but they won’t be as mature, the later you take it you will only produce one good egg but it will be the best quality. That’s the general gist. Most women opt for cd3-7 as it gives the best of both worlds. Produces a few more eggs, and all are of good quality.

Deciding that taking it on cd3-7 would suit me best I started it this cycle. In all honesty I thought perhaps it might bring ovulation forward a day or 2 or that I wouldn’t see any difference.

BUT, after noticing much more ‘wetness’ (sorry for tmi) down there, I decided to start taking ovulation tests from yesterday (cd13) and track what was happening.

To my surprise I got a decent line, and then today cd14 is not far off a positive. In fact I will test again later today incase this is my peak!

Could be coincidence, could be just another surge in my cycle etc. But in all the time I’ve been ttc I have never had any kind of decent line on an ovulation test this early in my cycle. Definitely not banking on getting my bfp or anything from it, just so excited that I might have actually managed to bring my ovulation earlier and might get a more ‘normal’ cycle length!

Just wondered if anyone else had any experience of trying it?

@Moominmiss thank you 😊

Runnergirl1 · 02/05/2020 08:38

@Moominmiss thank you. This is very interesting

paintfairy · 02/05/2020 09:19

@Moominmiss great thanks!

AnxiousAnnie86 · 28/05/2020 07:09

@Moominmiss hey lovely, just wondering how you are getting on, I'm going to take my first Sou iso today after reading your post last month xx

Moominmiss · 28/05/2020 14:45

@AnxiousAnnie86 hiya!
Well I didn’t get my bfp last cycle. But I’ve taken them again cd3-7 again this month and am currently cd12 so will see when I ovulate this time. No positive test yet.
I have preseed to try this month too so just need to get our timings of dtd right and 🤞🏻

What cd are you taking them on? And what dose are you going with?

This month I did 160, 160, 160, 200, 200. Maybe I should have just done 200 every day but never mind. Can always try that next cycle.

@Moominmiss did you find it brought ovulation forward and any side effects?

I'm going to take them 3-7 they are in 50mg so think I will take 150 for first 3 days then maybe 200?

Moominmiss · 28/05/2020 15:15

Yeah so the last cycle, my first cycle taking them it brought ovulation forward from a usual ovulation of cd21/22 to cd14.

No side effects that I noticed at all.

Oh yes having 50mg tablets makes things simple. Where did you get yours from.

I think 150 for the first 3 days then 200 fir the final 2 sounds perfect!!

Good luck!! Let me know how you get on!! 🤞🏻

AnxiousAnnie86 · 28/05/2020 15:21

@Moominmiss oh that's wonderful I would love to ovulate cd14!! My last three cycles have been cd18 cd 25 and cd32!!

I think I will take them at night in case, do you take anything else, I take seven seas trying for a baby and evening primrose until ovulation and this cycle I have just started taking omega three x

Moominmiss · 28/05/2020 16:35

@AnxiousAnnie86 I hope you also find it brings ovulation forward for you. I’m hoping it does the same for me this month and that last month wasn’t just some fluke!

I just take folic acid and a vit d supplement. I do wonder if I should add anything else in though. I’ve read good things about evening primrose!

AnxiousAnnie86 · 28/05/2020 17:20

@Moominmiss evening primrose has been so good for CM! I had ten days of it in a row before ovulation last month! It's also helped pms symptoms I normally get such bad cramps it's crippling and they are barely noticeable this month! X

Moominmiss · 28/05/2020 17:28

@AnxiousAnnie86 oooh that definitely sounds worth trying! So do you just take it until you get a positive ovulation test?

OP posts:
AnxiousAnnie86 · 28/05/2020 17:31

Yeah, I take two capsules a day until a positive ovulation test, then stop and start again on the first day of my period, it has definitely improved fertile CM! X

paintfairy · 30/05/2020 06:36

I'm going to try them next month. I've got the Tesco ones. Anything is worth a go! I'm hoping it doesn't bring my ovulation forward, I've been working on trying to get it back. 😂 Usually happens on day 11. This month I managed 13.

AnxiousAnnie86 · 30/05/2020 08:52

@paintfairy I think you take them later to make sure that doesn't happen 4-8 or 5-9 xx

paintfairy · 30/05/2020 09:34

@AnxiousAnnie86 I shall give it a try! I'm 12 dpo currently so AF due next week.

Lauren1288 · 30/05/2020 09:57

@moominmiss
thank you for sharing you experience of it! I have really long cycle usually about 40 days and I have been hunting for people stories on it is bought for was there ovulation!!

I've got the Tesco ones too and most definitely will be taking them at the start of next cycle, if the current one ever arrives 😩 currently CD 67 and my longest one yet

paintfairy · 31/05/2020 08:21

I've got a question- is it best to take them all at once (at night say) or to take half in a morning and half at night?

AnxiousAnnie86 · 31/05/2020 08:31

@paintfairy I take all mine at night in case of any side effects, I've done 150, 150, 150, going to then do 200 today and tomorrow x

Moominmiss · 31/05/2020 08:34

@paintfairy same, I also took all of them at once. Only I took mine in the morning. Doesn’t make a difference when in the day you take them, but as @AnxiousAnnie86 said night time might be better in case of any side effects (I didn’t get any).
But take them all in one go xx

@AnxiousAnnie86 @moominmiss great thanks! 😬

LottieX · 02/06/2020 15:49

So I don't know if it'll work yet but here's the before and after of taking soy isoflavones day 3-6... will see if this cycle is the lucky one!

Anyone tried Soy Isoflavones?
AnxiousAnnie86 · 02/06/2020 16:00

@LottieX wow that's really interesting to see!! Did it bring ovulation forward at all? That's what I'm really hoping for! OV date predicted CD26!!

LottieX · 02/06/2020 16:40

@AnxiousAnnie86 So my ov date didn't change at all but then again I only took 80mg x 2 days and 120mg x 2 days as I just wanted to increase the quality of the eggs. I did get really bad headaches so didn't want to increase the dosage as much as I'd wanted too. I've been surprised about how much stronger ov felt this month, fingers crossed it works. I'm 4DPO now, I'll test next week!

AnxiousAnnie86 · 02/06/2020 16:46

@LottieX that's great I have everything crossed for you! Please update!

I took 150 for three days and 200 for two, so I'm hoping it will at least bring it forward a few! X

KatBeCool · 03/06/2020 05:08

I decided to try isoflavones this month. I found a few research articles that say black cohosh taken in conjunction with Clomid is significantly more effective than Clomid alone. You take that on days 1-10 of the cycle. I also started taking n-acetyl-cysteine as it's supposed to be very helpful. So far I saw it noticeably improve my ewcm. Got a blazing positive opk today on cd13, but this is normal for me.
