Anyone tried Soy Isoflavones?

So as the title suggests...

I’ve been ttc Since last September, suffered a loss at 8/9 weeks in January this year, and then a chemical in March.

One thing I did notice with my cycles is that I seem to ovulate really late, like cd22. Making my cycles usually around 37 days.

Being in my late 30’s already I read up about ways of regulating your cycles, bringing ovulation forward etc and came across lots of stuff about soy isoflavones.

So I picked some up ready for the start of this cycle. Did loads of research about when to take it, doses etc as it’s supposedly like nature’s clomid.

You can either take it cd1-5, cd2-6, cd3-7, cd4-8, or cd5-9. The earlier in your cycle you take it your body will produce more eggs but they won’t be as mature, the later you take it you will only produce one good egg but it will be the best quality. That’s the general gist. Most women opt for cd3-7 as it gives the best of both worlds. Produces a few more eggs, and all are of good quality.

Deciding that taking it on cd3-7 would suit me best I started it this cycle. In all honesty I thought perhaps it might bring ovulation forward a day or 2 or that I wouldn’t see any difference.

BUT, after noticing much more ‘wetness’ (sorry for tmi) down there, I decided to start taking ovulation tests from yesterday (cd13) and track what was happening.

To my surprise I got a decent line, and then today cd14 is not far off a positive. In fact I will test again later today incase this is my peak!

Could be coincidence, could be just another surge in my cycle etc. But in all the time I’ve been ttc I have never had any kind of decent line on an ovulation test this early in my cycle. Definitely not banking on getting my bfp or anything from it, just so excited that I might have actually managed to bring my ovulation earlier and might get a more ‘normal’ cycle length!

Just wondered if anyone else had any experience of trying it?

Any updates?

I took days 3-7, although because of the timing of my last AF, and I took them late at night, it was closer to day 4 really. I did 160 the first 3 days and 200 the last 2 days.

I usually ovulate day 11 but was trying to get it slightly later. Never managed to. Until last month when it was day 13. Thr previous month my cycle was nuts though, so maybe that's why.

Anyway I'm on day 13 now. Temps indicate I ovulated day 10. I completely missed it on opks. No idea how! Didn't notice any difference to normal really. So I guess we shall see!

sweetheartyparty · 14/06/2020 07:44

I took it and it did seem to supercharge me ovulation, with lots of ewcm and ovulation pain. However I did have much worse period pain so I only tried a few times. I didnt get pregnant but unbeknownst to me had structural problems.
Good luck

VP91x · 14/06/2020 07:57

Hey @Moominmiss how have you been getting on this cycle? I'm definitely going to try them next cycle if not successful this month xx

KatBeCool · 14/06/2020 15:57

@paintfairy only 11DPO for me. I'm not testing unless I'm late, so at least three more days. I had an ultrasound that saw a 22mm follicle after I thought I had already ovulated. It didn't rupture the next day either so they did a blood test for progesterone and it was at 3.1, which indicates that I ovulated, so there must have been another follicle. The temp went up too.

Moominmiss · 15/06/2020 08:08

@VP91x well I’m fairly certain I’ve had a cp this cycle.
The soy brought my ovulation to cd15 which was great, then on the evening of 8dpo and again on 9dpo I got very faint but there bfp’s. 10dpo it was bfn. I’m now 14dpo and just waiting for af to show up. Due today or tomorrow so will see if it arrives on time or is thrown off a bit because of the possible cp.
So it’ll be into cycle 10 for me next. Unsure whether to take the soy again or go a cycle without it and see what my body does on its own. I’d like to know if the soy has managed to regulate things a bit or whether ovulation will go back to being late again. But I have liked ovulating at a ‘normal’ time and not having stupidly long cycles so I’m still tempted to take them.

@Moominmiss I'm really sorry you might have a CP, that's so cruel. Have you tested again since 10dpo?

Did they give you any side effects? So interesting how quickly they kick in.

I seem to be ovulating between CD19-21 so also keen to bring it forward. Xx

AnxiousAnnie86 · 15/06/2020 08:53

@Moominmiss I'm really sorry to hear about chemical :( that's so cruel!

I ovulated I think yesterday, I got a positive CD19 so I think soy deffo worked for me in bringing forward OV I was Cd26 last month and 32 before that!!! X

paintfairy · 15/06/2020 09:42

@Moominmiss oh no. That's not sounding good at all. But it kind of sounds promising in other ways, so maybe it's helping somehow?
I won't test before AF. I just don't want that disappointment.

I'm not sure I really want it bringing my cycles forward. I don't know if to try them day 5 onwards next month instead?

Moominmiss · 16/06/2020 13:26

@VP91x yes I’ve tested every day just incase, but of course bfn’s.
I’ve not had any side effects that I can think of, certainly none that I noticed at all!
I hope you have some luck on them!

@AnxiousAnnie86 that’s great that they seem to have worked for you too in bringing forward your ovulation!! That’s a pretty big difference!!

@paintfairy I mean I’m trying to think positive in that i can actually fall pregnant, but there does seem to be an issue with holding onto a pregnancy seeing as this is now my 3rd loss in 6 months. I’m speaking to a doctor tomorrow so will see if there’s anything suggest.

I do hate the disappointment of a bfp turning to a bfn, but equally for me I feel it’s good to know that there’s a potential problem that might need addressing. I was told if I had 3 or more recurrent losses my gp would look into things, so without early testing I’d never have known that I might have an implantation issue or an issue that’s causing problems in the very early stages.

Yes, if you don’t want to alter your cycle then taking them cd5-9 could be good for you as it will just make sure the egg is of the best quality.

Good luck!

Hi all,

Is anyone trying the soy this month? I'm on CD2 and I'm going to start tomorrow so taking them between CD3-7. Fingers crossed it brings ovulation forward for me.x

paintfairy · 30/06/2020 10:55

I'm day 5 and starting them today. Did 3-7 last month.

VP91x · 30/06/2020 11:18

Hey @paintfairy how did you get on with them last month doing day 3-7? What dosage did you take?

paintfairy · 30/06/2020 11:25

@VP91x I did 160 for 3 days and 200 for the last 2. Noticed no difference. But I did ovulate day 10 and usually its 11 or 12.

VP91x · 30/06/2020 11:26

@paintfairy ahh, I see. That's what Im going with this month. I've been ovulating on CD21 onwards so hopefully it brings it forward! X

paintfairy · 30/06/2020 11:31

@VP91x I find my AF is lighter if I ovulate early. Ideally I want to push it back. I'm hoping starting day 5 will stop it bringing it forward. We shall see.

VP91x · 30/06/2020 11:34

@paintfairy I hope it works this month for you. Are you using the Tesco ones?

paintfairy · 30/06/2020 11:56

@VP91x yes I am. No idea if they are truly any good though.

VP91x · 30/06/2020 12:03

@paintfairy I can't imagine they would be any less effective than other brands. It's the dosage that's important. Other brands might have less dosage of the actual soy. It's good that they aren't expensive, we end up spending a fortune on TTC don't we x

AnxiousAnnie86 · 02/07/2020 13:42

I've just started taking them last night, this is my second cycle on them xx

VP91x · 02/07/2020 13:59

Ah @AnxiousAnnie86 how did you get on with them last month? I'm on day 2, I've been taking them mid-morning no side effects so far which is good xx

AnxiousAnnie86 · 02/07/2020 14:01

@VP91x I was fine I took them last thing at night, I ovulated in Cd19 which is good. The previous three months it had been 17,32,26 so hoping it will bring it forward again x

VP91x · 02/07/2020 14:05

@AnxiousAnnie86 oh that's really good! Did you take them on CD 3-7? Did you vary the dosage x

AnxiousAnnie86 · 02/07/2020 14:09

Yeah 3-7 and I took 150 150 150 200 200! Hoping to have a successful month this month! Start acupuncture Monday too xx

VP91x · 02/07/2020 19:37

@AnxiousAnnie86 oh that'll be interesting what does the acupuncture help with? I've gone for 2 00 my way day, thought I might aswell just hit the ground running. Xx

VP91x · 02/07/2020 19:37

200 everyday between 3-7 x
