Can my test be a false positive?

Hi I'm 45 been trying for a baby for 5yrs with 3 miscarriages. I have missed my last period and done a test with cheap Freedom test which instantly showed a strong positive. I am trying not to get my hopes up and will buy a better test tomorrow but am now worried this is peri-menopause rather than pregnancy. I know with my age it won't be straight forward.
Does anybody have any information or advice?

I was told that you can have a false negative but it's impossible to get a false positive.

I’ve always heard the same as a pp that you can get false negatives but not false positives. Pregnancy tests look for certain hormones that are only elevated in pregnancy so you wouldn’t be able to get a positive otherwise. You can get a false negative as depending on how early you test, the hormones might not be high enough yet to be picked up on. Good luck, op!! Let us know how you get on tomorrow xx

I don't think you can get a false positive as it's looking for a certain hormone.
You can get evap lines if it's only faint but if you see a strong positive then its a positive.

Doesn't matter if it's a cheap test, they're still generally really accurate and false positives are rare- think there are a few drugs that can trigger one. Fingers crossed for you

Hi Yes clear blue is positive 3+ weeks. Good news but now super anxious. It’s not like they make out in the movies.
