Hi Ladies,

I recently had to have a medical termination as our baby was diagnosed with a Trisomy, The doctor advised we can start ttc after one cycle which has now completed.

I wanted to ask how much any of you guys know about Hyper ovulation? I had a scan 2 weeks ago that confirmed I have indeed hyper ovulated but not sure how long this goes on for and whether this will increase the chance of having twins? I really just want a healthy pregnancy.

Thank you in advance for your advice with this....

I don’t really know much about it, to be honest, but isn’t it genetic, being passed on through the mother’s side? I was just under the impression you either hyperovulate or you don’t, and there’s nothing you can really do about it. It’s also not necessarily a reason to not have a healthy pregnancy. You may or may not get pregnant with twins but there’s no reason to say even if you did, there would be complications.

Are you asking to know whether to continue TTC? If it was me, I would. I have hyperovulated and had a twin pregnancy in the past. I continued trying as normal and had a single pregnancy after it, resulting in my DS.

Oh sorry just re-read, yes it increases your chances of a twin pregnancy.

I hyper ovulate and have done as long as I can remember. I always have horrendous pain on both sides exactly 10 days after my period starts. It's like clockwork and always has been. Knowing when you ovulate is helpful, we conceived our twins on our first try, dtd just once.

Dcda twins (from two eggs).

Yes I have it too, currently pregnant with a singleton but have been pregnant with twins three times.

Thank you so much for all of your replies ladies - it is very helpful.

I think we want to ttc straight away - I would be happy with either a singleton or a twin pregnancy...my only concern is that it is a healthy baby. My worry with a twin pregnancy is that there is a higher risk and I don't think I could go through the heartbreak of losing another baby/babies again.

Although having said that, every pregnancy is risky and you've got to think positive right?! Also, don't know if I will hyper ovulate this month again so it may not happen at all!

Fingers and toes crossed xx

I’m so sorry for your loss, op. I wish you all the best with continuing TTC. I understand it’s incredibly nerve wracking when you’ve had a pregnancy with difficulties but you sound very positive and that will definitely help x
