@sammyclaire22 I reckon I'll start all using supplements for next cycle actually. Had a brief look on H&Bs and my god there's lots of vit b complex types - which one did you go for? Do you take it on top of pregnacare/seven seas?

Sammyclaire22 · 29/04/2020 07:28

These are what I'm taking atm- I stop the vit b and co enz 10 when I ovulate (no real reason why!) but will carry on with the agnus each day. Reading about it last night it's supposed to help balance hormones levels esp progesterone and I think mine is slow to rise and I wonder if it's why I'm spotting at 10dpo each month. Obv make sure you check for any contraindications with other meds or health conditions before taking anything new.

I'm not taking any pregnacare- I probably will if I get pregnant for the first 3 months but I think I will then just take folic acid and try to eat healthily. My doulas had an untested theory that it was linked to tongue tie and mine had it twice. Probably more genetics though!

@Sammyclaire22 I take folic acid but that's all. What do your supplements help with? Oh I was also drinking raspberry leaf tea in the 1st half of this cycle.

Donnat89 · 29/04/2020 09:26

@Donnat89 😔 I am so sorry for you and your family. My condolences 🙏🏻🌸

Sammyclaire22 · 29/04/2020 09:53

I think they just help regulate hormones and improve how the system works. The agnus works on the pituitary gland from what I've read. This is from a quick google:

How Supplements Can Help
Chasteberry, also known as vitex/ agnus castus, can help stimulate ovulation and is especially helpful if infertility is due to irregular ovulation. This herb appears to stimulate production of the female hormone progesterone and suppress production of the lactation hormone prolactin, creating a hormonal environment more conducive to ovulation. Chasteberry should be taken on those days each month when you’re not menstruating and stopped altogether if conception occurs.

The B vitamins play a key role in reproductive health and also in early fetal development; folic acid, especially, can prevent certain birth defects. Experts recommend that women trying to conceive take a vitamin B complex supplement that contains vitamin B12, biotin, folic acid, and all other B vitamins, plus extra vitamin B6.

CoQ10 is a popular supplement for women seeking to improve their fertility. It may help to boost the function of eggs by helping their mitochondria to produce energy.

No proven studies on any of them really- some small scale trials but generally they don't have side effects unless you have underlying conditions or meds that might react. I'm happy even if it just has a placebo effect!

Reading about the b vits I'm going to stop my folic acid as I think it's covered in the complex anyway then take it alone if I did get pregnant.

Sammyclaire22 · 29/04/2020 09:53

So sorry to hear that @Donnat89 xx

Donnat89 · 29/04/2020 10:04

Thanks ladies it's a massive shock and we still don't know what happened to her or what caused it . Hoping we will have some answers soon .

@Sammyclaire22 I take all of these too as a multi vitamin known as fertile formula . I haven't seen any difference but it won't do any harm ! X

We have started SMEP plan I'm CD 7 today but we started yesterday so DTD every other day until positive OPK ! Don't expect it to work first month but will see how we get on with it for now !

Hopefully we see some more BFPS This month ! X

@Donnat89 oh my goodness I am so sorry for you and your family's loss xx

@Sammyclaire22 how are you finding the chasteberry/agnus castus? I was recommended it by the gyno for PMDD and I took it for a while, but it didn't really make a difference and I've read mixed things about it. Wasn't sure whether to try to start taking it again though...my luteal phase is quite short so thought it could maybe help w that...
I take folic acid, vitamin d, vitamin c, and b-complex - but I took these before ttc as well to be fair. Thinking of adding some iron in though?

I've got some pelvic cramps today...nothing intense, quite dull...but I'm only 5dpo so think it's too early for implantation cramps???
I did an ab/core workout yesterday so it might just be that and I'm wishful thinking 😅

Skyla01 · 29/04/2020 10:59

@Donnat89 really sorry to hear your news- how shocking for you all.

@Sammyclaire22 thanks for all that info! Def something for me to think about if no you this cycle.

@lavenderlilaclily last month I had dull cramps for most of the tww. Not sure what caused them. I'm going to do my best not to symptom spot this time!

Skyla01 · 29/04/2020 11:00

@lavenderlilaclily how long is your luteal phase? I think mine is around 12 days. Would Agnus castus help with that?

Ripleysfirst · 29/04/2020 11:07

Hi all, can I join the chat? Second cycle TTC, and currently 1 dpo!

lavenderlilaclily · 29/04/2020 11:22

@Skyla01 yes I'm quite certain the cramps don't signify anything...but it's so hard not to hope!
My luteal phase is around usually around 11 days, give or take 1, though last cycle it was 9 :/
I heard that agnus castus can help regulate hormones so might be able to help with that?? I've read things about people ovulating more regularly with good length luteal phases after taking it, but equally some people have said it's messed their cycles up, and some have said it did nothing. so it's hard to say - honestly I'm not sure at all!
I was recommended it by the dr because I was getting so depressed during luteal phase it was unmanageable, was useless for 2 weeks out of the month...the agnus castus didn't help in the end so had to go on antidepressants, which helped lots

hello and welcome @Ripleysfirst! :)

Ripleysfirst · 29/04/2020 11:28

Thanks all! I’m on antidepressants- sertraline. But it’s for anxiety.
My luteal phase is super long which makes the 2ww for me actually 16 days! It’s sooooo loooooooong....

Ivoryjane · 29/04/2020 11:45

@Donnat89 I'm so sorry to hear your very sad news, condolences to you and family. Look after yourself.

Really hope to see some BFPs here this month xx

Skyla01 · 29/04/2020 13:14

@lavenderlilaclily that's awful your hormones can affect your mood so badly. I have regular cycles so might not try it just in case it messes things up.

Welcome @Ripleysfirst! Yes I am kinda lucky with a 12/13 day tww. I'm also approx 1dpo but not tracking closely. Trying to reduce tww stress! A long luteal phase is better I think. Is this your first?

Ripleysfirst · 29/04/2020 13:39

Yes it would be. I’m hitting 40 this year and been trying for a while. Doc says technically I’m fine and I was due to go in for IUI and then IVF but with all nonessential procedures on hold we’ve been just trying at home again.

Juno231 · 29/04/2020 14:41

Welcome @ripleysfirst ! A long luteal phase sounds dull from a TWW point of view but is so much better to have than a short one from a fertility perspective! Fingers crossed you get a sticky bean here with us.

@Donnat89 I'm so sorry to hear about your cousin! Certainly puts life into perspective when such things happen. Take care of yourself and your family xx

Juno231 · 29/04/2020 14:54

Gah it's not looking promising so far ladies!

TTC .... TWW wait part 2 !
Skyla01 · 29/04/2020 16:31

@Ripleysfirst sorry your treatment has been postponed- would be wonderful if you conceive naturally in the meantime! I have been trying 1yr+ so was due to see GP for first round of tests but I've put that on hold for now. Would be lovely to avoid that road but we'll see.

@Juno231 when do you usually get a positive? Cd12 is still early days.

Skyla01 · 29/04/2020 16:32

@Ripleysfirst out of interest do you know if everyone is offered iui first before ivf?

Ripleysfirst · 29/04/2020 16:34

So, the reason I’m being offered IUI is because technically there’s nothing wrong with me. Which means I have to cover the cost of the IUI. But if that’s not successful, then I can have one round and one round only (because of my age) of IVF on the NHS.

Skyla01 · 29/04/2020 16:36

Ah ok. IUI would be nicer than ivf I imagine. I've been doing a little bit of reading about it all. I've still got another year of TTC to go but can't help worry a little that we could end up there.

Ripleysfirst · 29/04/2020 16:37

Luckily all the tests were covered by NHS, so it’s nice to know that I still have eggs and that my tubes aren’t blocked, although I do have some fibroids, but they aren’t pushing on anything important. The worst procedure was the HSG, which is when they X-ray your uterus and tubes to check. It was really uncomfortable, but the side effect is that the dye they insert can “flush out” the uterus and clear things out making you potentially more fertile for 3 months or so....I had that done 2 cycles ago, so I’m hoping it’s still in effect!

Juno231 · 29/04/2020 16:38

@Skyla01 normally on CD12 for ovulation on CD13. Feb I never got a peak though 🤷‍♀️.
