Any buddies trying SMEP for the first time this cycle?

Hello all!

I am 26, and trying for my first baby. I'm currently on CD4 of Cycle 3. After two cycles of only DTD a few times in fertile window and no result, DH and I are going to give the Sperm Meets Egg Plan a go this cycle.

For those who don't know, the plan goes like this:

-> From CD 8 DTD every other day until a positive OPK.

-> Start testing with OPKs daily from CD 10 (but I will be using earlier as O'd on CD11 last month!)

-> From positive OPK DTD on the day of the + OPK and two days after, then miss a day and DTD again the next day.

We will also be using pre-seed for the first time this month.

Is there anybody else who is doing SMEP this month? Or anybody who has tried it before successfully or unsuccessfully?

After the disappointment of AF arriving early, I'm excited to start a new cycle.

That's ok @Hoping41 honestly I've never spent so much money on Amazon every month!

Littlebee1990 · 31/05/2020 05:47

SMEP hasn’t worked for me this month, AF has arrived x

VP91x · 31/05/2020 06:14

Ah @Littlebee1990 sorry to hear that.

I'm on 12DPO/CD33 and BFN again this morning so likely out too. Hopefully next month 🤞

jaxs23 · 31/05/2020 06:50

Welcome@Hoping41.

I'm so sorry @Littlebee1990. 😞

Seafrontsky · 31/05/2020 07:49

Oh @Littlebee1990 @VP91x I'm so sorry this isn't your month to catch. Hope you're both doing ok.

VP91x · 31/05/2020 07:58

@Seafrontsky thank you, just hoping AF shows up soon so can start afresh. Longest cycle I have had now. How are you doing? Xx

SmileyT · 31/05/2020 09:37

Sorry that AF got you @Littlebee1990 take a few days buy yourself an AF treat, eat the food you like, drink what you want and just remember that AF is the start of a new fresh cycle xx

I think I ovulated late Friday or early Saturday morning so 1/2dpo and planning to test on the 11th June 😬

serialplanner · 31/05/2020 12:25

@VP91x @Littlebee1990 sorry about AF but wishing you lots of luck for a new cycle - March babies🤞🏽

TTCgee · 31/05/2020 13:13

Sorry @Littlebee1990 :-( but yeah good idea to treat yourself and focus on you for a few days then pick yourself up for a new cycle xxx

Hoping41 · 31/05/2020 13:27

Sorry to hear that @Littlebee1990 and @VP91x I agree, a drink and good food before moving on to a new month. It’s all we can do.
Ha ha @SmileyT - I get the impression you know nearly everything there is to know about ttc. Does your OH take supplements too?
@Seafrontsky amazon can probably thank us ttc ladies for a large share of their profits!
I’m off out to enjoy the sunshine again. This is a rare treat in Scotland 😂

Hoping41 · 31/05/2020 13:29

@SmileyT no way I could give up sugar. Some things are just a step too far 😂😂

Seafrontsky · 31/05/2020 15:10

@Hoping41@SmileyT looks like I'm having to go sugar free to bring down TSH levels. My worst nightmare!

@VP91x thanks I'm doing ok. Got some results back yesterday which could explain the long TTC journey. So feeling positive and just entering SMEP peak, even though I'm unlikely to conceive this month with TSH levels high I dont seem able to stop TTC just in case. Hopefully I will be able not to put too much expectations into this month though so wont be disappointed when AF comes (who am I kidding?!). How are you doing?

Hoping41 · 31/05/2020 17:26

@seafrontsky good luck with the no sugar. Should it make an immediate difference?
I know what you mean about not being able to not try. There are so many stories of people who conceived once they stopped trying that I just end up fake not trying 😂

SmileyT · 31/05/2020 17:29

@Seafrontsky oh gosh was that picked up on a blood test? I've got such a sweet tooth I'd really struggle with that, but if it's better for you it'll be worth it xx

@Hoping41 haha it's funny because in February this year I didn't even have a clue about any of this but after my MC in March (unplanned pregnancy) I've become obsessed with reading as much as I can. If I've learnt anything it's that there is so much conflicting information about ttc but we can really only do so much and there is a big amount of luck, plus being positive and stress-free helps so I try that (not always successful) 🤞🤞🤞

Hoping41 · 31/05/2020 18:20

@smileyT sorry to hear about your mc, I can see why it's made you read up though. I can't believe how much I didn't - and still don't - know about this. It's totally fascinating and definitely just down to luck. Here's hoping the luck is with us this month 🤞

Seafrontsky · 31/05/2020 19:08

@Hoping41 I believe it should be 1-2 months and I already started with liver detox etc last month so it could have been higher. Yeah the pretending to yourself you've stopped trying is hilarious isn't it?! Who are we kidding! Also finding this such a fascinating journey. I used to just thing you banged around the middle of the month and Bob's your uncle! Literally had no idea about my body before all this, we are such amazing beings really. But I feel I've learnt enough now and ready to conceive!

Oh so do I @smileyt honestly! I try to curb it because I know it's not good but yeah I'd be on the biscuits cakes white wine anything if I had my way! Yes was picked up on a blood test with medichecks and says my thyroid levels are a bit too high to conceive. Hopefully this is the thing stopping me!

VP91x · 31/05/2020 19:20

@Seafrontsky ah, I hope going sugar free isn't too torturous. I had a blood test last week because I've been having a ridiculous amount of hair loss since my MC in December. So they are also checking thyroid etc.

I'm the same in not knowing how consuming this all was.

With my daughter I fell PG accidentally, and then with my MC we only had sex once that month because it had been such a busy month! And here I am, doing all sorts, 😂. Xx

Seafrontsky · 01/06/2020 07:48

@VP91x hairloss is a thyroid symptom I think so that's good you are getting checked out. As I understand it up to 4.0 TSH levels are considered normal, but there is new medical understanding that you need to be 0.5-2 to conceive and over 2.5 you wont conceive. I'm 2.75. Just I'm case your results come back and they say you are within normal range, that's for people in general, not those TTC.

VP91x · 01/06/2020 09:49

@Seafrontsky ah I never knew that! I'm not sure how long the results take to come back. Will double check with my surgery today! So interesting. Thank you for those stats. I'm going to have a little read up about it. Xx

Seafrontsky · 01/06/2020 10:57

Hoping it's all fine for you though, useful to know more about it it's such a minefield of information it's so difficult to know what's real and what applies to you! Hopefully it will come back fine for you. @VP91x

Hoping41 · 01/06/2020 15:11

@seafrontsky at least 1-2 months seems doable. And no sugar might be easier at the moment with everything shut. I definitely cooking more than I normally would - although I'm kind of cheating and have hello fresh delivered 😀

Hoping41 · 01/06/2020 15:13

@vp91x I think your story goes to show how much luck is involved in this! I hope this is your month 🤞

jaxs23 · 01/06/2020 15:39

I got my BFP.

Any buddies trying SMEP for the first time this cycle?
VP91x · 01/06/2020 15:40

@Hoping41 yeah definitely, no matter how 'perfect' your month of TTC has gone it really isn't in our control so much!

How are you feeling? Xx

Dipsy77 · 01/06/2020 16:28

@jaxs23 congratulations how many dpo are you ? X
