Pregnancy after MMC and ERPC

Hi Everyone,

I found out on Thursday that I had a MMC at 9 weeks (but baby's heartbeat had stopped at 8 weeks).

I had an ERPC yesterday, but have so far experienced no bleeding apart from a bit of spotting - is this normal?

Also, how long did anybody in the same situation wait before TTC again?

We also lost a baby to meningitis in November at a week old, so I'm not sure if I've just miscarried because my body wasn't ready after that. But we're desperate to give our 3 year old the sibling that she wants and to complete our family.

Any advise or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

I am so sorry for your losses, they must have been heartbreaking.

I had an ERPC in mid December due to a mmc and haven’t conceived yet, but I am 41 so Agee is not on my side. Wishing you and your family lots of luck in your ttc journey.

Hi OP, I'm very sorry for your losses.

My ERPC was a little different to yours because I tried medical management first and passed the sac and most of the pregnancy tissue at home. I had one day of heavy bleeding on the day I took the misoprostol and then very light bleeding for the next few days, but I knew from a scan that I still had a 2cm piece of tissue to pass. A couple of days after that I passed what looked like a large piece of tissue but there was basically no blood with it. Thought that was it but then I had another scan and was told I still had retained products so I had to have an ERPC. After that I had very little bleeding at all.

So I think it is possible to have a miscarriage with very little blood, especially if you have an ERPC. You won't necessarily be aware of how much blood you lost during the procedure. It could well be that that is it.

Get some cheap HCG test strips from Amazon and test every couple of days until they come up negative. After that you can expect things to return to normal fairly quickly.

Oh in terms of waiting to TTC, we started having unprotected sex again about a week after the ERPC. I think I ovulated around that time but I can't be sure as I still had HCG in my system and so OPKs wouldn't work for me properly. My first period came 4 weeks after the misoprostol and 3 weeks after the ERPC but it was very very light. I think my uterus wasn't able to build up enough of a lining for anything to implant. My next cycle was long (didn't ovulate until day 26) and then when my period came it was much heavier than usual.

My doctor said there's no need to wait to try again but it's normal for your cycles to be irregular for a while afterwards.
