Static smiley but ewcm after - later ovulation?

Hi, this TTC is all so confusing...

I've basically worked out that I get a static smiley on cd10. However, by then my ewcm seems to have gone.

This month on cd12 I got ewcm again. (I'm pretty sure it was this and not left over sperm from some 24 hours before.)

Could it be my body ramps up to ovulate but doesn't, then has another go?

@selina37 I'm not an expert, but I believe the LH surge can happen 12-36 hours before your ovary releases the egg. Every woman is different, but I too get my mucus before the LH surge and sometime after. It's never exact, but the OPK detect the LH surge only. It could be that you ovulate at the same time the LH surge happens (which is also possible). Also, the LH surge happens (I believe) a few hours after it's detectable in your urine. Your best to DTD when you see the flashing smiley and when you see the static. By DTD during flashy smiley time and static smiley time, you can make sure there's sperm waiting for the egg, regardless of when you actually ovulate.

Ah thanks @jazzibelle I've tried to cover the flashy and static times as best I can this month. Wonder whether I've been stopping too soon. This time I've DTD the day of and a couple of days after the smiley. Fingers crossed.

Are you currently trying?

@selina37 yes, will be starting TTC after the next AF. Sadly had a MC at 6 weeks last month, but ovulated this month again. The prospect of peeing on OPK again and all the timings with DTD has me 🤯 but fingers crossed we’re successful again

Oh @jazzibelle sorry to hear that 😔 let's hope for this month.
Opks give a sense of certainty but add pressure for the timings.

I temp'd as well as opks and I appeared to ovulate 2 days after the positive opk or static smiley, so that might be the case for you too :)

selina37 · 17/04/2020 20:03

Thank you @NannyPear that's interesting. Not sure I could manage temping with my sleep patterns!

Hope this is a good thread to post this question on:

My cycles are about 25/26 days, but I get a positive opk on day 10.

Could I be getting ready to ovulate then not, then ovulating a bit later?

I use Clearblue opk so once it detects LH I cant do another. I thinking it might be worth doing more opks to track the surge.

Any ideas wise ladies? Xxx

Average luteal phase (time between ovulation and your period) is 14 days. So a positive opk on CD10 with ovulation a day or two later sounds pretty spot on.

selina37 · 27/04/2020 18:40

Thanks nanny pear. Been looking back at my Flo app and I've had cramps and spotting (and sometimes ewcm) after my expected ovulation day. Just wondering if I'm getting it wrong, should DTD a bit longer maybe.

Now I'm confused....

Positive opk on day 10. Spotting started on day 25 ish, so thought period was starting. Didn't come to anything. Now, day 27 AF comes full force.

Why am I getting positive opk so early on?

Am I having a longer LH surge, so ovulating a few days after its start?

Longer luteal phase?

Anyone else have this?

TIA (again!)

So a couple of things - it's normal to get EWCM after peak ovulation - it's a sign of high estrogen levels thickening your lining to be able to support a possible implantation

Yes you can get peak readings at 10 DPO - in fact my only full term pregnancy out of 8 was from a positive OPK this early.
You OPK could just have picked up the start of the surge rather than the middle or end of it

@ivfgottostaypositive thank you, that's a really helpful reply. Love your username too!

I did wonder if I've been picking up the start of an LH surge. I haven't been able to continue to test with CB advanced opks, as you can't use them after you've already got a static smiley.

I've got the other CB opks this time. I might try and keep testing to see how long surge actually lasts.

Thank you, really helpful. ❤️
