DS or DD after MC ~ unscientific study

Alright, ladies, I'm conducting an unscientific study. I just had a mmc... was talking to my best friend who was helping me to get through it emotionally... To make me feel better she said: "You know I had mmc, and now I have my beautiful DD." Then she gave me a couple more examples of other friends with the same experience... All of a sudden we realized - all of our friends who had mc - had DD with their next pg.

Now, of course I understand that both DD and DS are born after mc. But we decided to see what is the % of DD to DS .

So, if you don't mind - if you had a mc and were fortunate to have a baby after that - who did you have?

Thank you

Hi there. I had MC, tried again 3 months later and conceived DS

abbymeg · 13/09/2007 21:05

Weird! But in fact - yes! I had an early MC, followed by DD (she's 9 now).

katendmom · 13/09/2007 21:11

Fascinating! 50/50 so far Ok, let's keep rolling

well, had a mc and a couple of month later fell pg with es.
Had another mc after him and then went on to have to further ds's

However, with my mc's I had a feeling I was carrying girls...and I comforted myself that maybe for some reason I just can't carry girls, and that maybe it is for the best...

katendmom · 13/09/2007 21:21

Talking about weird! We had a stillborn, DD. Then went on to have a DS - completely healthy and wonderful.

Found out that we were expecting a few weeks back, were totally sure that we would have a little DD... had a D&C this morning for a mmc.

Like you... I am starting to think that I am "boy's mum"

DS after m/c

Wasn't there a piece of research a few years ago that said women who'd given birth to boys were more likely to miscarry than women who had had girls. Something about hormones?

bobsmum · 13/09/2007 21:26

I think "more likely" was a teeny percentage, but interesting anyway. MAde me paranoid during pg with dd though that I was going to lose her

Nemo2007 · 13/09/2007 21:28

Right
I had 2 early mcs then DS
MMC then dd1 and dd2.

My friend had a mmc and had her dd2 after.

lucykate · 13/09/2007 21:39

i had dd first, but was a bad pregnancy and i bled til 23 weeks with her, then has 2 m/c and then had my one and only problem free pregnancy with ds.

my mums theory is that i can't carry girls, she reckons the 2 i lost were both girls and that dd is my miracle baby as i managed to go all the way with her despite it being against the odds. i was in and out of hospital for the first 11 weeks, thought i'd lost her so many times so i suppose there is a chance my mum could be right.

lilymolly · 13/09/2007 21:44

Just to alter things slightly......

I have a few friends who have had mc's and have gone on to have same sex children, i,e 2 girls or 2 boys.
I therefore propose a theory that some women cannot carry different sex children.
For example they can not carry girls therefore they have 2 boys etc.
Does that make sense?

Thankfully I have never had the misfortune of having a mc, and offer sympathies to everyone who does have them.

But that is my inscientific theory.

katendmom · 13/09/2007 21:55

lilymolly, that's an intersting twist to my original theory... Let's see if others come up with more ideas...

Oh, and we might be able to glean some additional information here that is rather scientific... I think I told you we had a stillborn DD... then we had a healthy DS

The doc who did my D&C this morning sent blood/ tissue of the baby that I just lost to the lab for analysis, mainly for genetic/ chromo analysis to see if there was anything wrong and/or if this baby might have had what our DD had, which was Down (even though I was only 27 at the time).

So... I am thinking that since they will do such an in-depth analysis, could they not also learn the gender of this baby that I just lost? If they can - I will ask - and I would bet it was another girl

Mc followed by 2 dds, SIL had ds followed by mc follwed by ds, friend had ms followed by 2 ds. Only person I know who has had mc and different sex children had a problem to do wih RHneg which caused the mc.

BTW my mum had 1 mc and 4 girls, was convinced the mc was a boy.

tissy · 13/09/2007 22:17

girl for me

Dropdeadfred · 13/09/2007 22:20

i have 3 dds (and have had 6 mcs..)

kindersurprise · 13/09/2007 22:20

lillymolly,
sorry to rain on your parade, or rather spoil your percentages, I had 2 m/c then DD then DS.

Nightynight · 13/09/2007 22:28

dd

Nightynight · 13/09/2007 22:29

lillymolly, def not true for me, I had dd, ds, ds, mc, mc, dd.

SunnyJaamy · 14/09/2007 01:45

ANother one to disporve your theory, though I am fairly convinced that in many cases for whatever reason some women can't carry one or other sex:

My sister had DS, mc then DS
But My friend had DD, mc then DS
And a neighbour also had DD mc then DS

ghosty · 14/09/2007 05:22

I had DS then an MC then DD ...

katendmom · 14/09/2007 14:18

well ladies... it seems that there is no theory since we're all over the board. That's great though - it means that most likely baby's gender/ gender of the born children, etc does not have anything to do with mc... Making mc yet once again just a bad luck in most of the cases... meaning that GOOD LUCK will strike again!

Boy.

suss · 14/09/2007 19:36

boy seven years after mc

katendmom · 14/09/2007 20:32

Very interesting many theories... many make sense. I just summed up our poll so far and we have 19 DDs and 16 DSs. I only counted DC after MC... I wonder if we can apply for the Nobel prize now? I think we're on to something LOL

OP posts:
rachaelsara · 14/09/2007 20:53

I had 2 mc's then 4 dd's. My sister had 1 mc then 3 ds's. BF had 3 mc's then dd and ds. Who knows? Until docs get more interested in investigating early mc's we'll never know. I personally think I couldn't carry a boy and my sis couldn't carry a girl. I'd love to know if it's true and why..... I wonder if tiny just conceived babies don't even implant if they're the "wrong" gender for you????

Good luck!
