Conception after ERPC

Hi, I had an ERPC on 9th Aug following a missed MC of first preg. Had my hCG levels taken on 28th Aug with a level of 61. Still no sign of AF and its almost 5 weeks since ERPC. Over the last few days I have started to feel a bit tired, nauseous and thirsty. We have not used contraception since the ERPC. Do you think I might be preg again and is it worth taking a test. I can't work out if my hCG level was still to high 2 weeks after the ERPC and I am just waiting for AF.

Any advice would be appreciated.

hi i had an erpc last week to the day i was told to take a preg test in 2 weeks and it should be neg if not ring the epu i was also told not to have sex untill after my first period can i ask does your af mean your period (sorry not very good with short text) because i wanted to know how long after an erpc untill your period

looneytune · 12/09/2007 15:42

I waited 3 months after my ERPC (I hate that name!! ) and I conceived straight away once we tried again. This procedure helps get your body ready for pg again so it's possible. I would take a test because if it's negative, at least you'll know your hormone levels are back to normal. If it's possible, you then need to speak to them again to see if it's hormones left over or new hormones iyswim.

A wait of up to 6 weeks after ERPC for a period is normal. OTOH, you might be pregnant again. I conceived in the cycle immediately following an ERPC - I mc again, but this had NOTHING to do with the previous ERPC. I would wait 10 days-2 weeks and then go to the doctor.

Thanks for all your replies. Natydee, yeah AF does mean my period, sorry! I was not told to wait until my next period to have sex, but I was supposed to use contraception, only to get a date., but our holiday got in the way!!! I think I will wait a few more weeks and see if things get back to normal.

hi just wanted to know if bollymiscuit has taken a test yet and if so what are the results if you dont mind me asking .i have to take a preg test next week just to make sure its neg ,its weird because 2 months ago i was shocked to get a pos result and now i have to get a neg to make sure all is well. i just want to get started again, even though the babies i lost werent planned and we had decided 3 was enough we both kinda looked forward to being parents again. its always the way though i bet if we try for one it wont happen straight away , anyway hope everyone is ok

Bolly, sorry for your loss. If you are PG and that is what is causing the nausea then I would say it's time to test. But it often takes five-six weeks to have AF after ERPC.

Hope everything works out for you.

Bertollina - gosh, you have been through a lot. Can I please ask how you know the second MC had nothing to do with the ERPC? I had a MC in March and I didn't ttc until after my next period - more because I wasn't emotionally ready than any advice from the doc, although my surgeon did tell me to wait until after AF.

Obviously lots of women on these boards ask about when to ttc after ERPC and I always say give your body a break cos it has been through too much to cope with another pregnancy so soon after a MC. You are the second person I have heard of who got PG straight after ERPC and then MC'd again. Sorry if I am being insensitive but I like to give people accurate advice and am happy to stand corrected if my advice to wait is not sound (except emotionally).

I decided to do a test yesterday and I got a v.faint positive line. I am still not sure if this is connected with the hormones from the mmc and ERPC so I am going ot wait until next weekend to see if AF arrives. By then, it'll be over 6 weeks since the ERPC so I will do another test if things haven't changed. BTW, I am now finding I need to use the toilet extremely often which was the first sign I had of the previous pregnancy. Will have to wait a bit longer.

I really hope whatever the result everything works out for you.

Are you getting a darker line now than you did before? In a few days test again cos it should be a proper line by then if it is PG. Good luck

Hi Nh101, I have an appointment this morning to have another blood test to work out if the preg test is reading hormones following the ERPC or a new pregnancy. Whatever the outcome, at least I will know what is going on with my body.
Thanks for all your comments and nice words.

Good luck! It is such a roller coaster isn't it?

Bollymiscuit · 21/09/2007 09:09

Hi, got the results of the blood test and my hormone levels are now at 10, which in theory means they are going down just extremely slowly. However I did ask the doc of the possibility that they may have gone down and are on the way up again due to being preg again, and she couldn't dismiss the idea. So I am still non the wiser! I have to wait another 2 weeks and if I don't get my period, I have to have another blood test to see if the hormones are going up or down still. The doc said if the levels were below 5, I'd def not be preg, above 25 is def preg so I am in between - maybe, maybe not! Its just so confusing and the wait is unbearable at times
