Should I postpone ttc with coronavirus?

DP and I were originally going to think about ttc number 2 around September, but now thinking that could be a bad idea as things are so uncertain, especially with coronavirus possibly affecting early pregnancy. We are lucky enough to have DS already.

Would you wait 6 months to a year or just try anyway?

I think waiting at least a month or so to see how this pans out seems sensible right now. Then re-evaluate? I'm not trying next month.

We're going to leave it a few months (if I'm not already pregnant this month! 8PO at the moment) and reevaluate after that. Given my age I don't have the luxury of time to wait more than say another max 6 months but I hope by then there will be much greater clarity about the risks posed. For what it's worth though the risks seem very minimal at this stage which is reassuring. I think September still seems reasonable to aim for if I were you.

KindnessCrusader · 23/03/2020 09:52

Have been wondering the same!

Rainbowqueeen · 23/03/2020 09:53

I’d reassess based on the situation in September.

Aloe6 · 23/03/2020 09:54

September is a little while off yet - I’d wait and see what things are like nearer the time before deciding.

I am not ttc, I already have my young family, but I was just saying yesterday that I'm so glad this didn't happen when I was pregnant with any of mine. I would definitely put plans on hold.

Another user just posted this on and then thread and it was a useful read. I think everyone will have different opinions on it.

Good luck in whatever choice you make x

Yes we planned to start trying in April or May. Will be waiting til at least summer now and see the situation. I am mid 30s and I believe the risks of the NHS being so stressed plus the risk of contracting Corona adds too much to what's already a vulnerable situation. I've been ill for two weeks with possible covid and couldn't imagine feeling like this plus being pregnant.

cornishdreams1 · 23/03/2020 12:57

Yes, if you have the option not to go through pregnancy this level of stress I would take it. You may not get the care you need, and you will put yourself in a very vulnerable position.

jam85 · 23/03/2020 13:21

I would rather wait and see how it unfolds. There are no evidence yet about how the virus affect the foetus in early stages. In a worst case it could lead to abnormalities like Zika, but that's not common for coronaviruses. Better to wait and see!

AntiHop · 23/03/2020 13:22

I'm continuing to ttc. I'm 42 so don't have time to wait.

BabyMoonPie · 23/03/2020 13:31

I'm almost 40 and have been TTC for 15 months so it doesn't seem likely to happen. We'll still be trying as we've agreed if I'm not pregnant by August that's when we'll give up
