Is it possible?

Since having my DD 18 months ago my cycles have been quite short. They started normally at 28 days but then dropped to 25. I'm 41 so I was thinking I might be peri-menopausal. We'd like another so I'm not overjoyed at that possibility.

Anyway, my last few cycles have been 25 days and going on that, I'm now 2 days late. We aren't currently trying so only had unprotected sex on day 20 because I assumed there was no chance I'd be ovulating around then. I can't imagine that I am pregnant and it's more likely something to do with my age but could you ovulate as late as day 20 with such a short cycle?! It doesn't seem possible to me.

I have had a course of antibiotics this month so don't know if that could somehow affect my cycle. I was thinking that maybe I didn't ovulate at all. If my period doesn't start in a few days I guess I'll test but I'm only 7 days since we had unprotected sex so I can't imagine getting anything other than a negative even if I did ovulate so late.

You're correct that even if this is the month, you'd only get a negative at this point. It sounds like the most likely scenario is that you didn't ovulate this cycle, or ovulated later than normal. Anovulatory cycles are very common - some studies suggest a fifth to a third of cycles iirc. However, ovulating late is also perfectly feasible, and illness can postpone ovulation. It's wait and see at this stage! If you're keeping an eye on changes in CM, that can give you a lot of information. Good luck!

The last time I had sex and worked out I should be safe I wasn't. I'm now 29 weeks pregnant 🙈

Thank for getting in touch, OP.

We'll move this one over to conception for you shortly. Flowers

Since having my daughter I don't really get the signs and symptoms I got for ovulation and my periods before I had her. I guess it's a case of wait and see. Saying that, I do now have back ache and that is a standard PMS sign for me.
