Hi ladies I had a missed miscarriage this month. It’s been pretty horrendous. We are thinking of starting to ttc again April/may time. I know i shouldn’t blame myself for the mc but I’m worried I did or ate something I shouldn’t of. I’m still taking 5mg of folic acid as I’m overweight. I’m watching what I eat closely but I’d like to know how you are preparing yourselves, as in vitamins, eating, etc I’m very grateful for any advice.

Firstly sorry about your mc- no one quite gets it until they go through it.
Secondly be kind to yourself, there is nothing you would have done that can could have caused it. As I'm sure you have heard it's common, horribly so. The only comfort I took from my experience was that for the short time I had my baby it was loved. And as a mum I think that's the single most important thing you can do for your kids.
In going forward don't put a time on it, for me I wanted to try again asap but wait until you are ready. In the mean time eating a bit healthier can't harm and will only put you in a good position for your next pregnancy. If you are eating a well balanced diet (lots of fruit and veg for the vitamins) then you should only need additional folic acid. Having said that I'm also trying co enzyme 10 and vitamin b complex this month to see if it helps (recommended by another mnetter)

@OP the mc wasn't your fault. To be very honest it's never a bad idea to be in a healthy state of mind and body when preparing for pregnancy but it's not required. I've done this a few times and it really is out of our hands. I've had three babies and two miscarriages at 9 weeks and 11weeks. The first was a missed miscarriage and the second was spontaneous so I had a tiny 11 week baby in my hand. I swear if I could have shoved it back inside I would. My third baby/5th pregnancy I drank ALL the tea and coffee under the sun because the other two never ever slept and I had more alcohol (as in the odd glass here and there) than I ever had with the others (a few sips at best). I was also living in a different country at the time and they had different recommendations regarding sushi and shellfish so I ate a lot more of that. My sum point is that it is always a good idea to be as healthy as you can but more for yourself because pregnancy is very hard on the body. Very hard. But conception is a fickle thing and you cannot blame yourself for not doing xyz if something goes wrong. There are thousands of things that can go wrong at anytime during conception/fertilisation/pregnancy -it's amazing that it turns out well at all. Bravo biology. The next time may be completely different for you. Xxx
