Hi I’m hoping for advice my implanon expired and the doctor said I can’t get a replacement for a year! but I’m on a waiting list and will soon be registered at a different doctors so will try there before considering the coil. My dp is aware of the situation and we have a ds 4 and a dd 3 and he is happy to stop there. Now I’ve been reading that it keeps working for another year and I’m struggling to find a thread about getting pregnant with an expired implanon.
Does anybody know anyone who has gotten pregnant whilst in this situation? Although I would love another baby I know it’s not the right time but I’m terrified to go near dp

If it’s expired why is your doctor making you wait a year?
They are likely to work for more than 3 years but are only licensed for 3 which means the manufacturers aren’t 100% confident to say they work reliably beyond 3 years.
Can’t you go to your local sexual health or family planning clinic for removal? They would likely be able to help you with a coil if that’s what you’d like instead

It’s a terrible doctors, I should have remembered this happened years before and registered a long time ago but nm. Oh I didn’t think of them, thank you I will call them tomorrow..it’s quiet far from me now but we have just moved area so I’m also hoping the new practice will seen me sooner. My dp doesn’t care for condoms and Im happy to follow my ovulation but I also don’t know how reliable this is as my periods were twice a month on the implanon but now it’s expired I seem to be regular.

I had my implant out in January and explained that it had expired, the doctor said they are looking to extend the licensing to 4 years soon as it lasts longer than the 3 years.
Definitely try a sexual health clinic, I went to one for mine rather than the doctors for convenience :)

Hi. I has my implant out last October 3 years past its exipry date. I never fell pregnant and had regular periods . X

Hi I’m a contraceptive nurse, try your local cash clinics you should get in sooner, there is ongoing research and evidence to suggest Nexplanon can work for 4/5 years but it’s only ongoing. We certainly would remove and replace at three years as another pp has said, as that’s the licence. I wouldn’t risk it, you can run pills alongside if your struggling to get in for an appointment. A years wait is utterly bonkers

Thank you for your messages.. yes I was shocked that they didn’t offer any alternative or places to go but I will ring round tomorrow now.. thank you again Smile

My implant expired in august 2015, I fell pregnant December 2019, so id say it lasts longer then 3 years.
Also as mentioned above call your local sexual health clinic, I got a same day appointment, you can also book online if your in the UK. www.letstalkaboutit.nhs.uk/

hello moms

so basically, my implanon got expired in November 2020, because of the pandemic, I was scheduled to come for refitting on 26th April, 2021. For 2months now (LMP-in January), I haven't seen my period, presently, having pains and cramps, back pain, and nausea. PT 5x says negative, but having symptoms of when I used to be pregnant.

can I get help here pls?

I had my expired implant out at 5 years (don't judge me, I'd had a bad experience with a previous implant and was really scared to get it removed so kept putting it off!) ANYWAY, when I got it removed I got pregnant the following month, which is no coincidence to me as I'd been having regular sex with my partner for the 2 years prior.

Sadly it ended in an early mc 6 months ago. Still TTC but I am convinced that the implants work a hell of a lot longer than initially thought.
