Drinking alcohol when TTC

I was wondering what everyone is doing... cut down, stop or continue drinking alcohol as normal when TTC? I’ve not touched a drip since I started trying on 20th January but having been unsuccessful in the first month and realising it might take me many months to conceive, I was wondering if I will be able to keep it up.

I have a family night out coming later this month just as I’ll be starting the 2WW again and so I’m also wondering how I’m going to get out of drinking without the in-laws immediately realising something’s up!

Cutting down to sensible levels until you get a positive is fine.

I dont drink in the 2WW (except the only successful pregnancy out of 8 that I had - tested BFN so though sod it I'll drown my sorrows - 2 days later got a BFP!)

I read somewhere that alcohol and caffeine can reduce chance of successful implantation by as much as 25% (but that doesn't explain the amount of babies born from drunken one night stands! 🤷‍♀️)

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted I thought caffeine and alcohol could impact your chances too! That’s why I’ve been so strict and cut to 3 coffees a week, all decaf and no alcohol.

My husband suggested I should let myself have a wine or 2 last Saturday when I started bleeding with the chemical pregnancy but I was feeling too upset and I think drinking would have just made me cry!

I might have a couple on weekends when my period comes though going forward if I continue to be unsuccessful. Still need to work out what to do for the family birthday at the start of the 2WW. Thinking of showing up early and getting myself a soda and lime and make it last for ages. They’ll assume there’s a gin in there 😆

You can safely drink more caffeine than that...

@PurpleDaisies thanks that’s a handy tool. I also eat chocolate so it adds up quickly! That’s why I cut the coffee down and go decaf. No tea either now just herbal or fruit teas.
