A question about OPKs

I'm fairly new to ttc and had questions about OPKs!

So I know that unless the 2nd line is as dark as the test line it's a negative, but what I wondered is:

At the start of your cycle or when theres no LH will there always be only 1 line or is it possible to have a 2nd faint line? I'm unsure if a 2nd faint line means I'm on my way towards ovulation or whether I could be nowhere near.

My periods are all over the place, my last one was in late december and the one before that was mid october.

I've used an OPK today and had a 2nd line that I'd say is about half as dark as the control line, I'll carry on testing every day but just wondered really what happens to the 2nd line throughout your cycle?

Thanks!

Hi! So everyone's LH levels are different throughout the month. Some will remain high all month but still peak at ovulation. Some will remain lower then gradually build up to peak. For me personally, I had about average levels for most of the month (so a faint second line) and then 1 or 2 days of quite strong lines and then my peak day where it was the same strength. Once my LH started rising I would do 3 opks a day so I didn't miss the surge.

@MsChatterbox

Thank you! I'll carry on testing every day. I guess once I've used them til the end of my cycle I'll know whether mine stay level throughout the month or whether I have obvious changes!

Argg this ttc business is a pain! If only I'd known as a teenager that it wasnt as easy to get pregnant as we were told haha I wouldn't have worried so much!

Have you downloaded the app premom? It let's you store pics of the opk and plots them on a graph for you. Easier to get to know your cycle that way!

@MsChatterbox no but that sounds great! I already have Clue, Ovia fertility and P Tracker but this sounds like a good thing to get as well!

Thanks for the advice really appreciate it :)

Depending on the cycle i have a line all cycle and they can get half the colour for a few days before ovulation (as i learned this cycle) but I’d say as soon as you approach the surge everyday should get a bit darker.
Be patient :)
Good luck x
