TTC - reflexology vs acupuncture?!

Hi. A quicK Background. So I’ve been TTC baby number3 for over a year now. Had a miscarriage in April and July but nothing since. Had fertility checks and everything is normal, hubby is having his sperm checked next week. We have used OPK every month, and this month we did SMEP, with nasal temp AND pressed but no luck. Due on tommorw and bfn today so .....

My question is reflexology vs acupuncture! Does either work?? Has anyone had both? What are the benefits? Any lovely success stories?

Xx

I’ve started fertility reflexology this cycle. Really enjoyed it so far even though I’ve only had 2 sessions. Unsure when AF is due (I usually have short cycles) but currently 11DPO so I’ll keep you posted if it’s worked for me. I’m not expecting miracles from it, but the sessions themselves are a nice hour escape from the world so I’ll keep up with them.

I had acupuncture with my first. Tried for 2 cycles and got no where ( wasn't very conscientious about it though- didn't track temp, cm or do opks. Just used ovia) so decided to give it a go. The next cycle I got pregnant. It could easily be coincidence but I don't think it was. It was very relaxing and enjoyable but it did cost a fortune. The guy I went to was a fertility specialist. My 2 best friends have had acupuncture for years ( different reasons) and they got pregnant first cycle.

I don't know anything about reflexology.

@razorlighting I can recommend fertility reflexology. I start back in June/July last year following a MC in the April, my lady also does reiki and she believes it's possible to get stuck with the grief and that almost stops our bodies allowing themselves to fall pregnant (I obviously have no idea if it's true). The sessions are amazingly relaxing and I feel like I float out of them. I was luck to conceive again in August and am due in May. Obviously myself and DH played a part - using SMEP loosely and with temping so it may have been a coincidence.

I've continued seeing her since as she also does pregnancy reflexology and it still really helps. It relaxes me and has made me feel a lot better when I had some ailments early on. Maybe book a session of each and see which one is best for you

There is absolutely no evidence that either work and, moreover, a growing concern that fertility clinics are pushing these complementary treatments on to desperate women because they're money spinners.

And people who do stuff like reiki are charlatans. It should be illegal to take such advantage of people, frankly.

Arm yourself with what MEDICAL SCIENCE knows about fertility, not a load of woo nonsense. I'm sorry to hear about your miscarriages and hope things work out soon. TTC can be heartbreaking.

Thank you for replies. So i was due on today - have never been a day off but after two negative test I'm pretty sure I'm out so having a wine!

@Nat4392 good luck with this cycle. My. Y les are on the shorter side - 25/26 days normal but my lutal phase is 11 days so that's ok. From the few reflexologist I've messaged it seems the hour to destress could be worth it. Keep me posts how you get on.

@booklover164 I don't mind needles but I'm just a little unsure about them all over me. I like the thought of it again being relaxing tho.

@Kayjay2018 ahhhh congratulations. I do think the being stuck in the grief is possible. How many session/ when did you have them? My best friend say why not look at it as having a good hour of relaxing me time, and id it destress you then lovely, and if you do fall pregnant a Brucie bonus! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

@opticaldelusion. Thanks for your comment. I have armed myself with as much information and medical science about my body and my fertility as I can. I have asked and had all the blood test that I can have at the moment and as I said everything has come back normal. My cycle is normal, I am not early menaporsal, I am ovulating and I have two healthy child with my (same) husband. Maybe I am impatient and maybe I just need to be a little more but I feel that lots of alternative therapies can help. It maybe that I'm feeling stressed and a few sessions of reflexology or acupuncture from a charlatan might be what I need to focus and relax. I don't know but as medical science is at the moment hitting me with the nothing is wrong, we can't help you I, willing to look elsewhere.

Acupuncture all the way!

Nat4392 · 07/02/2020 21:01

@Razorlighting AF arrived today! Absolutely gutted but onwards to next month! Got another session next week, going to stick with it for a bit, quite like the one hour escape 😊

BlodwynBludd · 07/02/2020 21:04

I had reflexology. Amazing, relaxing and got pregnant second cycle

Kayjay2018 · 07/02/2020 21:19

@Razorlighting I have to admit I use it as relaxation, I think I was really deep in grief and blaming myself, the sessions made me feel better physically and mentally. I have just looked back and I think I had about 4 sessions maybe 5 and was then lucky to fall pregnant.

I think giving yourself some time to be you and relaxing will help you become less stressed.

Razorlighting · 07/02/2020 22:17

Oh @Nat4392 😟😟 I feel gutted everytime it comes. Is so hard isn't it. As an adult pretty much everything you want you can somehow get - bar a baby. Sending you a huge hug, a bar of choc and some wine xxx

Thank @BlodwynBludd

@Kayjay2018 I've got myself booked in for next Friday - have a friend of a friend that does it, she's a NHS nurse but also trained in it so fingers crossed that I can get the relief (and results) you did xx
