Caffeine in the early weeks

Is caffeine really bad in the early weeks of pregnancy? I’m not sure if I am pregnant yet but I’ve cut my coffee to just 3 a week and always decaf.

The problem is I have been mistakingly handed a non decaf on my lunch break today and I really don’t want to just pour it away. I’m going to feel guilty drinking it though. It’s starbucks and likely at least 250mg of caffeine.

You don’t know if you are pregnant yet OP so I really wouldn’t worry.

It was never a concern with either of my pregnancies as presumably you are too early too test?

Enjoy the coffee!

I’m only 10 DPO at the moment so holding off on testing until later this week. Thanks for letting me know. It’s frustrating when you ask for decaf at these shops and make her effort and they don’t listen. I’ll check the NHS link, thanks!

Hey I wouldn't worry too much! I'm 15dpo (waiting till my missed period till I test (31 day cycle)) and I'm having 3/4 caffeinated drinks (not that I'm recommending that). I normally have so many more!

How did you know you were given a non decaf drink?

karenkeys · 04/02/2020 15:06

Starbucks ticks boxes on the cup to show decaf etc and it wasn’t ticked like it usually is. I go for the coffee shops that do that so I can see that I’ve got decaf.

I drank half the coffee and poured the rest away so not feeling too guilty. I probably am worrying unnecessarily!

Aww hun! I would have just enjoyed it then go without for the rest of the day! Had to left the shop before you realised?

karenkeys · 04/02/2020 15:19

Yeah was back at work otherwise I would have asked for decaf again! I’ll be checking in future before I leave.

Honestly 1 cup of coffee will make no difference at this stage of pregnancy - if you are pregnant you and baby are barely even sharing a blood supply. Enjoy your coffee.

You're allowed caffeine, I think 1 or 2 cups a day so I wouldn't worry.
