PGD IVF

Has anyone on here been through PGD IVF?

I have a genetic condition that impacts 50% of my eggs, I was tested for this when i was about 17 and told my options are -
-PGD IVF
-Try naturally and have a termination if a test at 10 weeks shows the condition

I'm now 25 and me and my husband want to do IVF as we don't think we could emotionally handle the termination.

We have a doctors appointment in 2 weeks to discuss it but I literally know nothing about it and don't want to go in blind. I have tried googling it and there is very little on the NHS website.

I was wondering if anyone has been through and can explain how it all works?

I haven't had PGD for a genetic condition but did do it on my second cycle of IVF to look at whether my recurrent miscarriages were as a result of chromosome issues.

I would say it's definitely better to start looking at doing it sooner rather than later as as you get older your chances of having a chromosomally normal embryo decreases and thats before you add in looking for the specific gene you are looking to avoid

I was told at 36 to expect at least 50% of embryos were "abnormal" - turned out it was 100% and I would say most people I know my age who have also done genetic testing found that it was more like 70-80% abnormal so you've got to go into this being realistic you may only get one or two embryos to transfer

I would sign up to a multi cycle package so you do at least 3 egg collections and then send off to test whatever you get

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted thank you yes we are keen to get started ASAP. There is so little information out there i'm hoping they don't expect me to know too much already!

@WonkyGenes did you have any luck with your PGD treatment and what hospital was you referred to for it?
