TTC and UTI

Hi ladies ☺️

So I ovulated in the last couple of days (tried to not track this month lol) and this afternoon I had some symptoms which I knew straight away was a UTI as I’ve been prone to them since I was little.

Anyway, managed to get a doctors app and they’ve given me antibiotics. Didn’t think of asking while I was there and this may sound stupid, but can this effect conception at all?

Thanks x

Hi OP, sorry to hear about your UTI, I struggle with them too! I have been told that they should not affect conception but recurring UTIs can potentially decrease the ability to stay pregnant/can cause one to go into labour early. That being said UTI in pregnancy is meant to be fairly common so I wouldn't worry too much. Hope your antibiotics kick in soon. I have found that taking probiotics helps prevent them for me, at least to a degree.

I had the same problem! Plenty of DTD during ovulation was to blame I think! That and not peeing straight after! I was wary of having antibiotics incase this affected things. Luckily I managed to flush it out with a tonne of cranberry juice and the god-awful sachets 🙈 the joys of TTC!

@Oliviaparker18 I could have written this exact post!! I'm due to pick up antibiotics tomorrow for UTI and had the same concerns. I'm only 1DPO now. Do you know the name / type of antibiotics they've given you? I think some are fine during pregnancy / ttc x

@Raizelrea ah thank you. I’ve only taken one so far and they are already kicking in so feeling much better. Thing I caught it just in time! Ah amazing I’ll try that x

@Nat4392 nightmare isn’t it 🙈 lol. I’m prone to them anyway but DTD all the time definitely is not helping haha. Hopefully it’s worth it haha.

@Trying2b I’ve got Nitrofurantoin. I’ve just googled them (didn’t think Of that before lol) and they seem to be okay during pregnancy so I’m guessing the same for conception x

@OliviaParker18 My GP said Nitrofurantoin is fine when pregnant/TTC. 👍 I think if they were to prescribe you something not suitable they would ask if there is a chance you could be pregnant first.

I'm the same with the frequent DTD, such a tricky balance! Wishing you all a speedy recovery ladies!
