IVF - egg retrieval

Please help, I am absolutely beside myself.
I missed my trigger shot time by 5hrs (nightmare day) Meaning when I go in on Monday for egg retrieval - the trigger shot was done only 33 hrs ago.
Obviously I am going to tell them but I’m worried incase they continue will egg collection at the same time I’m scheduled for. Will this mean lack of immature eggs, problems with embryos or will they fail to implant? It’s taken us so long to get to this point and I’m terrified it’s going to fail because of one stupid mistake missing the time slot of my last trigger shot.

I suspect that depends on your clinic - call them ASAP

HavelockVetinari · 26/01/2020 07:53

Call the clinic ASAP, they'll need to move your egg retrieval to a bit later. The window for collection is 36-40 hours after the trigger.

HavelockVetinari · 26/01/2020 07:53

Don't worry though, this happens more frequently than you'd think.

LouisaPipSqueak · 26/01/2020 07:54

Thank you. I have but nothing they can do until I get there tomorrow. What would have if eggs were collected at 33hrs instead of 36? Is it possible? Will egg collection be cancelled. I’m terrified it’s all going to go horribly wrong!

It's not so much about immature eggs but the hcg trigger shot basically speeds up a process which would normally happen naturally - something about the chromosomes inside the eggs need to reduce from 46 to 23 and the egg expels the rest

I guess If you take the shot late and they don't change the collection time then it might not have completed the process and you could have more chromosomally abnormal eggs than normal

What time was your original collection booked in for? They may not be able to move it 5 hours later?

Jojo19834 · 26/01/2020 09:36

They will have multiple people in on the day and will schedule you later, just tell them and all should be fine

LouisaPipSqueak · 26/01/2020 10:43

Thank you all so so much! I’m a hysterical mess this morning. Called out of hours doc at the clinic and he’s said he’ll move collection back a few hours. I was due in 9.45am. I know reading online is the worse thing I can do but I’m just paranoid that I’ve ovulated early, eggs are too mature now or like #itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted said chromosomes problems. So if it does work, I’m going to stress the next 9 months that something is wrong with it! 😩

@LouisaPipSqueak
Try not to worry too much although I know it's hard - you'll presumably have a few eggs of different sizes - they trigger when the largest one gets to a certain size so even if that one is affected by the delay the others have a good chance of being fine z

LouisaPipSqueak · 26/01/2020 11:37

Ok. That’s great! Thank you so much for reassuring me. Counting down the hours till tomorrow so I can put my mind at rest either way! Thanks again xx

You'll be absolutely fine, don't worry! A few hours isn't going to result in chromosomally abnormal eggs if they've moved collection.

Best of luck with it, let us know how you get on Flowers

LouisaPipSqueak · 26/01/2020 21:51

Gosh, I hope you are right! 🤞 Thank you so much, will do! X

Had a scan, all looks ok as I haven't ovulated yet. Booked in for half 12 which will be the 36hr. 🤞 we get good juicy ones!!

Everything crossed

LouisaPipSqueak · 28/01/2020 11:40

Thank you!
15 eggs, 14 fertilised, 10 survived the night hope we have good quality ones for transfer Saturday! Xx

Wow that’s brilliant, everything’s crossed. I found the stress of waiting to find out what happened to the eggs/embryos incredibly hard. FWIW I had similar to you - 13 eggs at retrieval and 10 fertilised. 4 day 5 embryos: one is now a three year old the next embryo is now a 16 month old and the last two embryos are still frozen.

Mooey89 · 29/01/2020 21:38

Good luck!

LouisaPipSqueak · 30/01/2020 07:19

Awww @mooey89 that’s great to hear 🙂 I don’t feel stressed about the waiting. They said they won’t ring again unless we have nothing to transfer so I think so far so good. Only problem now, is I feel so sore and sick. I’m worried I have OHSS. Did you feel ok after egg retrieval?

LouisaPipSqueak · 30/01/2020 07:19

Sorry @Twickerhun!!

I felt mostly ok -a little sore. if you aren’t sure speak to your doctor / clinic - better to be safe than sorry
