Follicular phase spotting miles before ovulation

Does anyone get spotting in the follicular phase but stops after ovulation? Mine goes off and on for a week from cd19 until i ovulate late cd20s and is sometimes quite heavy with some small clots. Due an ultrasound in a few weeks but already had the all clear a few years ago when i had fertility treatment So guessing it may be hormonal?

Has anyone had this and found a reason or anything to help?

Thanks x

Hi @Vickisun!

I know this is an old thread but I was on an Internet trawl as I’m having the same issues but couldn’t find anyone else with this!

I am also having follicular phase spotting which seems to stop after mid cycle and have no idea what’s going on. Did you get any answers?? X

Yes but accidentally! I went to see a specialist who said it was hormonal, even though he didn’t do a blood test. He said to take progesterone for 3 weeks and have a week off and do this for 3 months to reset my cycle. I did this for 3 or 4 days then read the guidance on the progesterone pills which said do not take if have spotting between periods. I stopped the pills and since then (March) I’ve had no spotting at all! So maybe this may work for you, you could try progesterone cream if you can’t get the pills... it’s worth a try. My periods are less heavy and clotty too.

@Vickisun Thanks for replying :)

Ah I see. I’m glad your spotting had settled! Mine seems to be more than spotting and more like mini bleeds so will definitely look further into progesterone cream.

I was slightly disheartened because when I mentioned it to my GP and my gynaecologist before lockdown they didn’t seem bothered and now it’s just worse :(

Doctors just don’t seem bothered at all. Mine was like mini bleeds as well, to the point where I was unsure whether I was having a period or not! I hope you get yours sorted x
