Getting pregnant with high prolactin?

DH and I have started TTC wooo.

I did some at home fertility tests via Lets Get Checked. As I’m approaching my mid 30s and a bit curious.

FSH, LH and oestradiol were all normal but prolactin was high - 1041 mIU/L when it should be 102-426.

I’ve made a GP appointment and guess they will retest?

Mine was high when I got my bloods done last week, they are re checking it in 4 weeks time. Try not to worry too much as it is really treatable if necessary.

Are you having regular AF?

Perfect cycle - 28 days!

Positive story here: got pregnant at first try with 1000 prolactine, this was however artificial insem because of using donor sperm. GP did a referrel to endocrinology to further test but by the time pregnancy was already confirmed so they didn't do any further tests. Fingers crossed for you!

Thanks to both of you for replying.

The nurse I spoke to on the phone says it seems like a blip? But I have thyroid issues in my family so I’ll ask the GP to test that too.

Best is to test, good your GP is willing to further investigate.

The reason I have had a blood test is we have been TTC for 13 months with no success so I’m having tests done, might not be down to high prolactin as I am having regular periods too!

Hi @BirdieFriendReturns,
High prolactin levels may make pregnancy more difficult (even if you can get pregnant).
You can treat it easy with drugs.
I would recommend to see your doctor and get a prescription.
Good luck! Smile

Hi all I just found out my prolactin is on high side. I also have subclinical hypothyroid. Been trying for 13 months. Got this test done privately and now feel annoyed gp's didn't to it with there tests ages ago. Hey @whatsthecraic91 .
I'm a luteal phase mystery spotter too so now think this is the reason. High prolactin can make progesterone low in luteal phase.

orangeloo · 28/01/2020 16:29

And hello @Morgane777 I've chatted with you on the spotting forum before.

Morgane777 · 28/01/2020 17:45

Hi @orangeloo!! Nice to find you here! How's it going with the spotting?? for me, still the same ...

orangeloo · 28/01/2020 18:12

@Morgane777 I tried seed cycling last month which is supposed to boost progesterone. I would say I spotted a bit less but I still spotted from 6DPO. I am being naughty this month and trying natural progesterone cream. I'm currently 7DPO and haven't started spotting yet (usually 6dpo without fail). So fingers crossed. I'll keep u posted.

@birdiefriendreturns just thought I'd pop on and say I had high prolactin. May levels varied from (800-1060) I went on a 6 week treatment course of 1 Cabergoline per week and within 3 weeks I ovulated myself for the first time ever. I stopped the treatment at 6 weeks and my levels still remain low now months later. Recent bloods said 13 and 6!

For any reassurance I still ended up taking clomid as my cycles were very irregular and I'm now pregnant (VERY early - just 4 weeks) with my first. So hopefully that gives you some reassurance x
