My t4 is 13 and TSH is 4.54

Can anyone advise what medication they think I hould be on? Im only on 50mg and I've read in numerous places that this isn't enough 🙁 feel like I'm never going to conceive while they are so high!!

Fed up!!!

Hello, I have researched quite a bit and also my GP confirmed for TTC TSH should be under 2.5....I have fallen pregnant with higher but both ended in miscarriage.

Your T4 seems in range...I can't remember exactly what that needs to be xx

Thanks for that, I've already had a MC and that's what worrying me as don't want to go through that again x

I’m not sure on t4. I can’t remember what my levels were at my last blood test. I think tsh should be around 0.4-4. Mine is less than 0.01 so I have the opposite problem to you. It has the same result of increased risk of miscarriage though and I can’t find a consultant that will tell me anything other than to delay trying until my levels are stable. Sorry that’s not particularly helpful but hopefully someone will be along at some point with more information.

T4 seems ok, a tiny bit low. TSH too high. How long have you been on 50mg (of a Levo I assume?). When were your last bloods? What were your levels before medication?

Do you know what your (free) T3 is? This one is key. See the attached image and look on the HealthUnlocked thyroid UK forum.

Your TSH as a minimum should be 2.5 before TTC.

Ps your levels should be in the “optimal” column.

Have you had a thyroid scan?

queenqueenqueen · 23/01/2020 22:43

No, not had a scan. Pretty new to all this tbh.

My TSH was 11 before (7 weeks ago) and that's when I changed to 50mg

No idea about the other numbers....

Got appt with Dr on Tuesday... After the latest results "I should make an appt if I am planning a pregnancy" 🙁 not sure what for?? More blood tests?

My periods are definitely being affected by all this and - at most - my cycles are only about 21 days long.

Just want things to get sorted now, feel like me ever conceiving is just so far from even being a possibility never mind actual happening 😔😔

Post on the forum I mentioned above, they have excellent advice. You’ll need to be on a higher dose in order to get your levels suitable to TTC. And your T3 should be tested.

Don’t worry! The medication works, it takes a little time. You may have to be your own advocate as GPs in the UK tend not to be knowledge about the optimal thyroid ranges. Good luck!

LockThatFridge · 24/01/2020 16:31

@Livingmagicallyagain that table is really useful. Thanks for posting. Just checked it against my last bloods which were t3 5.9 so within range but tsh was 0.02 so nowhere near. I think my biggest problem is the TSH receptor antibody which is 5.7. I will also have a look at that forum.
@queenqueenqueen I know how you feel. I’m close to 40 and I feel that this is wasting valuable fertile years. I’m worried that if my levels don’t return to normal soon then it will be game over.
