Ovulation cramps?

Hi all,
Sorry if this has been asked a million times before - I tried searching but was overwhelmed with threads and couldn’t see anything that might answer it.
For background, I came off my pill at the end of November, had a withdrawal bleed pretty much right away and then had my first period on the 3rd Jan for three days (very light)...and that’s pretty much the only info I have when it comes to my cycle length etc as it’s just been that one month. Ovia estimates I was in my fertile week last week (assuming I’m on a 28 day cycle, which I may or may not be), however this evening I have had quite strong cramps on the right hand side and I’m wondering if they might be ovulation cramps? I was on the pill for over 10 years so am really not in tune with my body and how it usually acts and I’m also not using any ovulation tests so can’t check that. The pain is on and off, quite strong and goes quite low down. Can anybody who gets them advise if I’m that sounds about right? I’m just really trying to get a hold of what on earth my body is up to (this should be taught in schools!)
Thank you! 😘

Hopefully is ovulation pain, could be worth taking a pregnancy test to rule out an eptopic pregnancy though (causes one sided pain) x

Hi @SkyBlue20, it sounds like ovulation pain. How long did it last? Did it feel a bit like heavy, almost constipation pain? That’s how mine always feels.

I know it’s hard to be sure but what day of your cycle do you think it occurred on?

KittyWindbag · 22/01/2020 01:19

I guess if you had your period around the 3rd the pain occurred on about day 18 of your cycle. When I first came off the pill my cycle was really out of whack and took a couple of months to settle so even though the 18th cycle seems slightly late to ovulate, it’s possible.

Those apps really only begin to work well after a few cycles have been logged, without your personal information to create cycle patterns they just default to the average cycle which is pretty unlikely to accurately represent your cycle at this stage.

@Kittywindbag Yes, a bit like constipation pain, exactly that! It’s around day 19 and it started around 10pm last night, was there when I went to sleep and seems to have eased off now. Completely appreciate that the app won’t be right just yet, though when I put in the pain it changed my fertile window a bit so hopefully the more info I put in, the better it’ll get. I’m just counting down the days until my period (unless a miracle has happened!) so I can start to get a grip on it all.

@Katnissx I didn’t know that, thank you for the info! Fingers crossed it’s not that 🤞🏼

It sounds to me like you had ovulation pain. Even though it’s a frustrating time, having to figure out your natural cycles, you’re completely right that all the info you can record now will give you a better insight into your cycle and hopefully make things easier. Good luck to you!

@KittyWindbagThank you! Trying to be rational and not be annoyed that we didn’t DTD yesterday or Monday and remind myself that we did do it each of the three days before so it’s all good. All rationality goes out of the window with this, doesn’t it?! 🙈

Well according to a lot of research the best times to DTD are the few days before and not actually on ovulation day. So you have a chance!

SkyBlue20 · 22/01/2020 14:52

@KittyWindbag Fingers crossed! It’s only month one though so not holding my breath. Thank you! 😍
