Right, I've had 6 postive opks in a row. No chance I have misread the tests. Been testing afternoon as advised. What is going on? Has this happened to anyone else? No mention of this possibility on the leaflet.

OPK's measure the amount of luteinising hormone. Such tests actually work on two misleading principles; that all women have one LH surge every month and that such a surge is followed by ovulation. Both of these are simply not true.

Also if you are one of many women who are producing higher than average levels of LH the kit is reading that (hence the multiple positive results).

I would stop using the OPK's forthwith (they are a waste of money particularly if cycles are irregular) and have a blood test done to see what your hormone levels are like. This would give you a far more accurate picture. If you do have a blood test done the level of LH needs to be compared against that of FSH (follicle stimulation hormone). It is imperative that a comparison is made because if these two levels are awry ovulation will be affected.

Thanks - have a gynae appt in two weeks so will ask them to do the blood tests.
