Long cycles REALLY getting me down

Hoping someone can relate or at least give me some advice to get AF going again 😩

Currently TTC DC #2
When I initially came off the pill (after 7-8 years of constant use) in 2015 my periods completely disappeared for about a year. I had to see a gynae consultant and long story short they ruled out PCOS and gave me tablets to start my periods again. 8 months later we managed to conceive DS, took a while to realise my cycles were then anything from 30-40 days long 😩
I never went back on the pill after DS as I knew we wanted more kids in the future and didn’t want to go through all that again.

We’re now actively trying again, cycle 6 of trying and although not successful so far I was still having periods. Normally 32 day cycles. Then last month DS was admitted to hospital, it was very scary and stressful and my period came on day 28 (which NEVER happens). Since then, nothing.
I’ve taken multiple tests, most recently on Thursday and all BFN so definitely not pregnant. I just want AF to show up so we can keep trying but nothing is happening 🙁 (tmi warning) just loads of creamy and sometimes stringy discharge.

Thanks if you’ve made it this far. Just feeling so fed up with it all. Why don’t I work??!! 🙁

Because you're stressed.

My last cycle was 87 days. Lots of stress. I've lessened the stress, looking like a 36 day cycle this month which will be the shortest so far in one year for me.

Mycrazylife85 · 18/01/2020 15:27

Stress can make it shorter or longer, but if definitely messes it up

I feel you OP, my cycle averages out at about 46 days, it's so frustrating!

Mumofboys17 · 18/01/2020 22:49

@Jurassiclover nice to know I'm not the only one! I'm not saying stress isn't a factor, but this has literally been my life since getting my periods back and feels like it has only gotten worse.

@Mumofboys17 mines been the same ever since I came off the pill! I can't work out what's causing it either. I feel like I don't feel particularly stressed but when my period is late and I keep getting BFNs then I start getting more stressed, then period gets even later and it seems like a vicious cycle

Mumofboys17 · 19/01/2020 07:54

@Jurassiclover you literally sound just like me!! CD39 today 😤
I'm going to give it another week and if still nothing I may pester the GP, though I'm not sure they can actually do anything 😕
Have you ever been tested for PCOS? X

@Mumofboys17 yeah might be worth checking in with GP I'm sure they can give tablets to help bring AF on if cycles are long and there's no BFP.
No, they've never tested me for anything, although I do have hypothyroidism, I'm not sure if that could be contributing but I'm on medication and latest blood test showed my levels were all good.
The reason I went on the pill to begin with was because my cycles were originally incredibly short, I was bleeding every 14 days! My mum actually has PCOS though, I wonder if there's any genetic link?
Have you ever been tested for it?x

I feel you. I'm on CD 36 with at least another week to ten days maybe more before AF comes. Its shit. It hadn't occurred to me to see the GP about it, hmm, I might do that.

Mumofboys17 · 19/01/2020 14:03

@Jurassiclover When we were trying for DS I'd come off the pill and had no periods at all for about 10 months. GP referred me for bloods and scans etc as I think they initially assumed it was PCOS or ovarian cysts but everything came back normal. I saw a consultant who said it wasn't unheard of to happen to women that have been on the pill long term with no breaks 😳 would have been nice if someone told me that sooner!! They gave me a weeks course of medication (cannot for the life of me remember the name) and that kickstarted my periods again. They've been between 30-35 days since. This is the longest I've had since having DS, he was 2 end of last year 😩

@ToTheRegimentIWishIWasThere deffo worth considering! This is why I'm leaving it as long as poss, I feel like if I went to the GP in the first few days they'd be like 'yeah let's leave it a couple weeks'.
I'm hoping AF will come on her own. It's making me really uncomfortable tbh, I've got cramps on and off and had them for over a week. It feels like AF wants to come but can't?

Jesus, sorry for the essay 😬😂

@Mumofboys17 I was on the pill for 8 years, definitely wish someone had told me about this before I went on!

Mumofboys17 · 20/01/2020 10:25

@Jurassiclover AF finally arrived for me this morning! Thank god!!! How's things with you? X

@Mumofboys17 oh I'm glad AF has finally arrived for you! Hopefully next cycle is the lucky one for you! I'm okay, on CD37 with no sign of AF yet though x
