Long cycles driving me mad

Loulou922 · 18/01/2020 07:53

Hi everyone,

I'm on month 3 of TTC. My cycles have always been irregular but the past 4 months they've been 28, 40, 42 and now on 47 and no sign of af but still bfn!

I'm finding it all so stressful, I feel like I could cope better if they were more regular but each month they are later so I get hopeful, feel like I have symptoms and then nothing.

Does anyone have any hopeful stories or words of wisdom, I feel like I'm losing my mind.

I dont have any advice sorry but wanted to say i know how you feel. I had long cycles after coming off the pill and used to feel exactly the same. I thought id feel better if they were more regular but now they are its still just as stressful. What contraception did you used to use?

danielasummer · 18/01/2020 10:53

Hi, I'm in the same boat. Mine range from 35-50 which is so annoying. It means I ovulate less times a year than the average woman which bugs me as I stand less of a chance. However, apparently long cycles don't impact your ability to conceive which makes me hopeful x

other89 · 18/01/2020 15:36

@Loulou922 and @danielasummer I understand how annoying it is because it just gets up your hopes and then all you see is a BFN. I'm not sure month to month if I'm even ovulating as my two long cycles I felt like I haven't.
I came off the pill in May and since then I thought my cycles were back to normal at 31 and 30 for the first month. Then we decided to properly 'try' and that cycle was 45 days which obviously made me think I was pregnant. Then we decided to wait for a couple of months and both cycles were 31 is days and then decided to try again in December and now I'm on another 40 day + and feel again like I haven't ovulated (just a feeling) I don't know what's going on with them and my pregnancy tests have all been no's. I just want my period so I can at least try again.

bluebell94 · 18/01/2020 16:00

CD54 here, I feel your pain. I'm so fed up with it. If I knew 11 years on the pill would do this to me I wouldn't have stayed on it. Never again Sad

Loulou922 · 18/01/2020 16:12

It's awful isn't it! I had a copper coil and had it removed a year ago and they've never got regular since. They weren't regular before to be fair so think it's just normal for me. @danielasummer I feel like it's so unfair too! I ovulated 9 times last year so only 9 chances really. My sister is similar and conceived their first month of trying so I'm sure it is totally possible just miserable waiting all of the time. Also expensive as I've done so many tests these last few days!

I know how you feel, my cycle is averaging about 46 days and it's just so stressful isn't it!

Loulou922 · 18/01/2020 20:15

I've read taking royal jelly capsules can help speed up ovulation and I have a Dr's appointment on Wednesday. Will see if anything helps, fingers crossed we all manage to stay sane with these long cycles!

OP posts:
other89 · 19/01/2020 14:07

@Loulou922 Hopefully the doctor will be able to help. All I'm hearing at the moment is that it takes longer for some people to get their regular cycles back!! That doesn't help when all you want is for a 'normal' regular cycle!!

Loulou922 · 19/01/2020 14:29

Yes, it's frustrating either way isn't it. I don't think anything is going to come back for me, they've always been so odd. I used to have loads or pre period drama worrying I was pregnant before and I'm not having the same worry but worrying I'm not! Arghh!

reginafelangee · 19/01/2020 14:37

Irregular and long cycles are a sign of pcos. You need to raise this with your gp

BellaMella · 19/01/2020 15:24

I feel your pain. I've been tracking mine on fitbit for a year and range from 34-42 but they seemed to be settling around 36 days in the Summer, but then the last 2 cycles before xmas were 38 & 39 days and this month I've had the most random early 27 day one. I just don't know what to expect from one month to the next!

Loulou922 · 19/01/2020 18:27

Yes I thought so, especially as mine has be been irregular forever. I have an appt on weds. Previously Dr's have been really dismissive that they are regular enough and to worry when I want a family so hopefully after a year of trying they will be willing to do something. @BellaMella it's so hard to cope/plan for isn't it! Have you tried temping? My temp usually goes down the day my period is coming which helps x

OP posts:
BellaMella · 19/01/2020 19:04

@loulou922 I haven't tried temping as this is our first cycle ttc baby #2 so I've only really started to realise the difficulty this month with the arrival of an early AF.
Do you use an app to measure your temp or normal thermometer and just keep track on an app?

Sarah5678 · 19/01/2020 20:52

Mine range between 40 and 90 days it is torture! I have just been diagnosed with pcos which explains this! 5dpo today so fingers crossed but not feeling hopeful! X

BellaMella · 19/01/2020 21:52

Oh bloody hell @sarah5678 that's a long range, that must be so difficult for you, bless you. Fingers crossed everything goes well.

Loulou922 · 20/01/2020 18:52

I use a bbt thermometer I got in amazon and track it on kindara. It is helpful and let's you know what's happening. But it must be done as soon as your wake up at the same time every morning so the minute I don't have to wake up at 6am I forget and I'm a bit rubbish. Would recommend it though xx

OP posts:
Loulou922 · 20/01/2020 18:53

Oh no that's such a long range! I'm on day 50 of this cycle and it's the longest I've ever had, I'm losing my mind. What did the Dr's say after diagnosing you with pcos, will they do anything to help you conceive or just a case of waiting and seeing?

OP posts:
Sarah5678 · 20/01/2020 20:30

@Loulou922 I am waiting for an appt at fertility, was supposed to be 4th feb but it has been cancelled!

Mycrazylife85 · 20/01/2020 21:14

Hello ladies, I think I recognise a few names. I have pcos and my last cycle was 87 days. I'm having a cyst monitored so 6 weekly scans, I have another Sunday. My husband has his appointment before his spent analysis Friday. But this month I ovulated early and am looking at maybe a 37 day cycle! I used OPK and temp. We dtd about a day before and I had lots of positives to show I was ovulating. I'm 7 DPO and nothing. No symptoms I can look out for at all. Completely dormant.

Waiting for AF. She'll arrive.. despite me willing my body daily to do something

Loulou922 · 21/01/2020 07:09

Ohh no, how annoying. Hope you get seen soon.

@mycrazylife85 fingers crossed you'll get your bfp! 37 say cycle sounds like a dream now.

I'm on day 51, keep trying to plan what I'll say to the Dr, I want to try not to spew it all out to her mid snotty tears!

Small1607 · 21/01/2020 07:21

I'm on cd59 this time round and it's torture as so far been 34, 40, 44 so I've been testing like a crazy lady 🙈🙈

bluebell94 · 22/01/2020 14:07

@Small1607 I'm cd58, also my longest cycle and also driving me crazy!!
@Loulou922 I'm also planning what on earth I'll say to GP... need to get some courage to actually book an appointment Blush I feel like I'm scared either way - scared something will be wrong or scared everything comes back normal and I'm still stuck!
I had an ultrasound when I was about 14 as thought I may have pcos and as far as I remember everything was ok. I could ask my mam as she was there with me and would remember otherwise... but she doesn't know we're TTC so don't want to 🙈

other89 · 25/01/2020 09:12

@Bluebell94 I'm now on cycle day 50. Think it's time to book a doctors appointment and see if they will take me seriously with my cycles and trying to conceive. I've been on the pill that long that I can't tell you what my cycles were doing and I wish I had come off earlier now. Did you book an appointment? Did they give any help?

Loulou922 · 25/01/2020 15:41

Well ladies you won't believe it, took a test weds morning before Dr's appt and it was a faint positive. Told Dr and they organised for a blood test the next day, that came back positive! I think my period should be due tomorrow although it's day 54 of my cycle so I'm around 13dpo with a bfp!

Congratulations! That's brilliant news!
