Self insemination - Any success stories?!

Hi everyone,

I have NC'd for this to save our blushes!
DH and I have just had our first round of IVF which was sadly unsuccessful after an early miscarriage.
We have 2 frozen embryos but we would like to TTC naturally for the next 6 month's first in the hope the IVF hormones might help boost our chances.
DH has always struggled to ejaculate inside me when DTD. Therefore we have decided to try self insemination in the hope it will take away some of the stress.

I would love to hear any success stories.

Also which insemination kit did you buy?

Has anyone tried a soft cup / Ferti Lily conception cup after inserting the syringe to help things along?

Thanks everyone!

@Oilyoilyoilgob massive congratulations lovely!! So so happy for you and your hubby!! It’s made me feel so confident this can happen this way! This month we only did the syringe method as hubby really struggling with ED so we thought let’s take the stress away and only do it this way (made me feel like it’s not going to happen but after hearing this I feel much happier!) can I ask what syringes you used?? Xxx

Thank you @MrsKin90 Daffodil I am surprisingly calm about it today, I can't wait to start again, onwards and upwards!
I am thinking of getting a digital CB ovulation kit, I am trying to justify spending £30 on it instead of a tenner for 40 strips… Blush Any help? Grin

Iloveoreos · 26/09/2020 17:40

There goes my frer to waste ..bfn for me.. here come the tears
As one of the ladies said above not out of the game until AF arrives so staying positive xx

Iloveoreos · 26/09/2020 17:42

LAG1986 · 27/09/2020 10:17

@Oilyoilyoilgob wow!! I'm so excited for you. Congratulations. X

@eloiseislost CB are good but they will drive you mad each month while you search for your static smiley face! Currently on day three of flashing smiley and getting impatient! But easier to interpret than the cheaper ones (although I still get those when I'm testing twice a day!) #Obsessed Confused

I'm the obsessive type too… Caved in and bought the CB digital, see how it goes this month. I have some back up cheapie strips to fall back on and do multiple tests daily Grin

I am sorry about your BFN, I had a lot this month, started testing at 8 DPO and the stark white on the test was driving me mad each time. You are right, you are not out until AF arrives, so try and stay positive! Which is easier said than done of course…!
Oilyoilyoilgob · 27/09/2020 21:33

Hi everyone. After a half day in a&e yesterday thinking I may be having an ectopic, it turns out my blood and wee showed no pregnancy so looks like it was a chemical.

I had symptoms from 15/9 of pregnancy and tested two days after my expected period and had three positives this mon 21/9.

I’m feeling a huge mix of emotions thinking I was pregnant this week to finding out nothing. If there’s a silver lining I’m glad the bleeding is obviously my period, not a miscarriage/ectopic but I’m feeling very hurt and feeling like a really cruel trick has been played on me 😞

My husband has been amazing. He couldn’t wait with me in a&e so that was tough. My anxiety rocketed in there and I had to have an ecg due to my absolute racing heart. After 4 hours he caved and cane in and I immediately felt better. I know the situation but god I really feel if needed we should be allowed someone there with us.

I’m licking my wounds right now but we will keep on going. I’m thinking I’m either very sensitive to the hormone change (likely as I’m mega sensitive) or they rocketed for some reason but the sickness, metal taste, vivid dreams etc. So obvious the hormones were running around my body.

We’re taking from this that insemination does work so we’ll definitely keep going. I read online 30-50% of all pregnancies are chemicals. Going forward we’ve agreed I won’t test for at least 7-9 days after my predicted period. I was originally due Sat 19th and actually started yesterday at 4.30am.

I’m so sorry to add a shit post but obviously I need to as I’m not pregnant 😞

Oilyoilyoilgob · 27/09/2020 21:36

Sorry I didn’t see the posts above. We are using a normal 5ml syringe. Plastic cups with red screw lid.
We did 7 straight days of syringing and x5 of those husband kept so erm warm next to his belly under his top for ten mins so it went really watery. It obviously worked and the sorry met the egg but sadly along the way the chemical happened x

LAG1986 · 27/09/2020 22:08

@Oilyoilyoilgob I'm so sorry to hear your news. Its heart breaking for you. X

Oilyoilyoilgob · 27/09/2020 22:24

@LAG1986 thank you. I’m feeling bruised both emption wise and inner elbows as a momento from yesterday.

I feel I’ve let my husband down and he’s been amazing. The little package I gave him with baby stuff in on Monday night and he has been saying, well we’ll use them next time. He’s been so lovely and is his usual very positive self-he’s the best support I could ask for during tough times.

I’m ok but this week has been an absolute rollercoaster and I’m having a proper adrenal slump.

I’m taking from it that inseminating definitely does work and we were very nearly there! So close.
I’m definitely definitely waiting to test now if I’m late again, even if like this time I get very early symptoms. I’d rather wait it out then have this again but i will keep going forward and take these few days on my period to look after myself (and have cups of tea, I quit them when I got positive pregnancy tests) xx

LAG1986 · 27/09/2020 23:18

@Oilyoilyoilgob you know it works. Keep going and it will happen. I get sad every time I test or af arrives, so I stopped testing a while back. You sound like you have an amazing husband. X

eloiseislost · 28/09/2020 05:38

I'm so sorry @Oilyoilyoilgob it must have been so difficult for you and your husband. I hope you find some peace and strength to keep going. Your rainbow baby will come! Thanks

MrsKin90 · 28/09/2020 07:27

@Oilyoilyoilgob I'm so sorry to hear your news. Make sure you take good care of yourself and each other. I'm glad your husband is being a good support for you.

Carol1980 · 28/09/2020 08:53

@Oilyoilyoilgob
Sorry to hear about what has happened x
It yes there are lots of chemicals unfortunately 😞

I am currently 14dpo but getting negative tests and AF was due yesterday so my cycle is obviously a bit out due to the MC as this is my first cycle after it x

bigsweetpotato · 28/09/2020 09:07

@Oilyoilyoilgob oh no I'm so sorry to hear that. Stay strong xxx

Lori23TTC · 28/09/2020 09:34

@Oilyoilyoilgob oh I’m so sorry to hear this 😞 Sounds like you have great support from your husband and like you said you know it works. Sending lots of love and take care of yourself xx

MrsKin90 · 28/09/2020 12:11

@Carol1980 did you track ovulation? I can't remember if you're someone who does or not, sorry. Annoying that your cycle seems a bit out - did you inseminate last your expected O date just in case?

I'm CD51 today 😱😱😬 and finally finally have a bit of spotting. Feels too much to be ovulation spotting... also no other O symptoms. Soo hopeful my period is starting but decided to inseminate yesterday just incase. It's so bizarre to hope for no AF and then be begging for AF 🙄
I've also given in anf ordered Myo inositol to see if it helps shorten my cycles/support me with PCOS symptoms. That should arrive this week and will start it as soon as it does 😊

Oilyoilyoilgob · 28/09/2020 13:18

Thank you everyone, I appreciate it. I never knew chemicals existed until being on Mumsnet and then until Saturday never knew how common they are. It feels like a really cruel dupe 😞

I’m trying to keep my chin up and if/when I feel symptoms again and I’m late I’ll keep on waiting so I don’t have this again. I was so excited saying to my husband ‘I’ve got a baby bean in me’ 😓

So I’m definitely waiting to test even longer next time.

@MrsKin90 that’s a super long cycle, I hope it settles soon or a positive appears. Sending my best either way as that’s a good waiting game you’re having to do.

The day I tested my husband had bought loads of ovulation stuff inc clear blue smileys but I’ve read mixed reviews with you all, so I’ll use those and strips together after my period.

Bloody hell what a shitty road this can be to travel. Trying to wind my neck in about thought of people who get pregnant without all this. Please give me a virtual slap about the chops

MrsKin90 · 28/09/2020 14:28

@Oilyoilyoilgob it's all scarily common isn't it? I've never had a positive of any kind so can't say I know what you're going through. You don't HAVE to be okay though, I hope you know that. You will get your sticky bean, and it's good to look forward but I think everyone tries so hard to be strong about it and it's okay to not be okay for a little while. You need a great big cuddle, some chocolate and lots of time and understanding - no slaps in chops!! 💐

It's definitely AF for me. I'm so relieved. What a long one!!

Oilyoilyoilgob · 28/09/2020 15:14

Thank you and you are right and I’m just wallowing today and I’ll enjoy it. Tired of trying to be ok all the time. Just eaten tons of peanut butter as a pity snack

Oh at last for your period, bet it feels a relief to finally know one way or another. Hope it’s not a bad one x

MrsKin90 · 29/09/2020 17:38

@Oilyoilyoilgob hopefully a wallowing day helps you!

How is everyone doing today?

eloiseislost · 29/09/2020 19:23

Hi @MrsKin90 Smile CD5 for me today, due to my cycle being 24 days last month, I'll start testing with the CB Advanced tomorrow. Can't wait for my fertile window, although I know it will probably be next week. But at least with the OPK I feel like I'm doing something, you know? Decided to switch from 10ml syringes to vaginal applicators this month, the tip of the syringe was very uncomfortable last time!
I bet you were only looking for a "Fine, thanks!" but you got my verbal TTC-related diarrhoea instead! Grin
How are you today?
