Self insemination - Any success stories?!

Hi everyone,

I have NC'd for this to save our blushes!
DH and I have just had our first round of IVF which was sadly unsuccessful after an early miscarriage.
We have 2 frozen embryos but we would like to TTC naturally for the next 6 month's first in the hope the IVF hormones might help boost our chances.
DH has always struggled to ejaculate inside me when DTD. Therefore we have decided to try self insemination in the hope it will take away some of the stress.

I would love to hear any success stories.

Also which insemination kit did you buy?

Has anyone tried a soft cup / Ferti Lily conception cup after inserting the syringe to help things along?

Thanks everyone!

Good luck to everyone. I really hope things work out for you all.

Cardigan2020 · 22/09/2020 22:55

@bigsweetpotato yep the tww is the absolute pits. Keeping fingers crossed 🤞 for you.

bigblueboots · 23/09/2020 09:16

Hi everyone, thanks for the encouragement @Cardigan2020, it really does help to hear success stories! We had good news today - a real, clear surge on an ovulation stick! I know it seems small but I've been testing DWs pee religiously this month and feeling like it was never going to show anything. And here it is! CD21 which seems late, but she has long/irregular cycles.

We inseminated Monday eve which hoping will be viable for ovulation in the next 24/48 hours. So crossing everything for this month! I guess we start counting TWW from tomorrow?

@bigblueboots eekkk I got my positive OPK yesterday too so I’m DPO1! The waiting begins! Good luck xxx

Carol1980 · 23/09/2020 11:55

Good luck ladies x

I'm now 8dpo today....not really symptoms spotting this time round as I'm pretty sure it's not worked this month anyway x

I think I'm at the stage now where I don't think we're lucky enough to get preggers again, and I'm a plan for the worst type of person so I don't know if it's just a way to save my sanity so that I'm not horribly dissapointed 🤦🏼‍♀️

That's great about the positive opk, honestly I went through a few cycles of using the cheap strips before I got so fed up trying to interpret the result that I just thought sod it im using the clearblue ones. So hats off to those who persevere with them x

Fingers crossed ladies xxxx

primrosechill · 24/09/2020 12:24

AF is here... screw you TTC! I was really optimistic this cycle.

Lori23TTC · 24/09/2020 13:03

@primrosechill sorry to hear this lovely 😞 try and take care of yourself this weekend sending a virtual hug... this ttc crap is so hard! X

Busybee93 · 24/09/2020 13:05

@primrosechill oh so sorry! at least you can have wine for another week or so!

@Carol1980 I have started reading a book by Marissa peer called getting pregnant and succeeding and that really helped me when I was feeling the same way as you. May be a bit fluffy but when I was down it really did help me to have some optimism.

I'm ok CD16 today (30 day cycle) and still no positive OPK! I usually have it by day 16 so feeling anxious as to why it's not here. Do anyone else's ovulation days fluctuate? I've got so anal and obsessive about it and have tested at least twice a day for the last few day's with cheap sticks and also clear blue!

MrsKin90 · 24/09/2020 20:25

@primrosechill I'm so sorry AF has come 😟

@Busybee93 it's not abnormal for people to get a few days variation on ovulation. It's also within 'normal' range to ovulate up to CD20 so don't give up and keep going!

Goodluck everyone, will be crossing my fingers for you 😊

Still no AF for me. 🙄 Lots of twinges and cramps but who knows. I expect I haven't ovulated so will keep an eye out for EWCM but also would be nice for AF to appear now so I can move on! I've realised during the pandemic having TTC to focus on has actually been really good for me. So even though it's really fucking shit that it is so hard, it's better than the alternative things I have to focus on in life right now!! Roll on AF for me 🤞

Oilyoilyoilgob · 24/09/2020 20:53

Hi everyone, I’ve been sitting on this since Monday-I’ve had two positives! I’ve been hesitant and I’m sorry if I upset anyone posting this. It’s only me and my husband that know and I’m praying this little bean sticks 🤞🏻🙏🏻
We did daily inseminating 1-7 sept. I honestly thought I’d be a wreck but I’m feeling calm and so, so hopeful everything goes ok. This was all down to inseminating as there was no sex whatsoever deliberately (we decided ovulation week needed to be focussed on trying to catch that egg!) so it can obviously be done!

My husband is in shock still, despite nagging for a long time for a baby 😄

MrsKin90 · 24/09/2020 21:04

@Oilyoilyoilgob 😍 Congratulations!! You sound very calm and sensible. I'm so happy for you both 🥰 you've cheered me up!!

Oilyoilyoilgob · 24/09/2020 21:17

@MrsKin90 thank you so much 🥰

I’m amazed I’m so calm and I’m worrying is there an epic meltdown on the way ha! I’m normally an anxious person and a worrier. I knew since last week-sickness/poos on the 15th that I mentioned here (tmi!) metallic taste, tiredness, some other things-I just knew. So when I took the test monday, 2 days after my predicted period I wasn’t shocked to see the cross when I turned it over. My second thought was ‘you can do this’. I’m amazed at myself 😅

We’re just taking it easy and day by day. I never knew that much about chemicals/miscarriages and now I know how much they can happen I’m just taking it day by day and hoping it goes well. I’ve never been pregnant before but I’m hoping my body is happy to have bean make itself at home. Every wipe/discharge feel is a ‘gulp’ moment but I’m doing mindfulness and trying to keep calm.

When I first came on this board I was the one not sure about syringing, my husband had suggested it and I had this by romantic vision NOT involving syringes but throughout I started to feel the opposite-we’re all doing our best to get a baby and be happy and we’re all accepting of what’s going on with each other’s lives and I have felt part of a lovely group who stopped me feeling lonely in this.
It can be done, just praying he/she stays put xx

MrsKin90 · 24/09/2020 21:38

Eeek! I'm so excited for you ♥️ I like to think I'd be the same if I get a bfp! But I'm sure I'd fall immediately to pieces and wrap myself in bubble wrap 😂 you CAN do this! 💪
Praying for a sticky bean for you lovely. I actually feel quite proud of you 🤣 not sure if that's weird.

Oilyoilyoilgob · 24/09/2020 21:47

Aww that’s so lovely of you, thank you ever so much 💚 not odd feeling proud at all, I do of you all when there’s positive opks or lots of syringing 😂 syringing pervs 🤭

Jesus who knows how we’ll ever react. I honestly thought I’d be crying and being sick! I had a bit on as my parents rang just after my first test -obviously kept quiet, then as I only had one test I had to go to Morrison’s for more all the while queuing holding on to my second wee, don’t think I had time to panic 😂

Thank you so much. This thread is a godsend for us all 💚

bigblueboots · 24/09/2020 22:23

@Oilyoilyoilgob Yesssss, such good news! So happy for you - crossing everything for a healthy little bean, and that more of us are sharing the joy soon! Flowers

primrosechill · 25/09/2020 00:24

@Oilyoilyoilgob congratulations 😍🤗 so nice to hear positive news on here.

Don’t apologise for getting the BFP either - we all get on here with the exact same intention and despite receiving my period today I for one am so uplifted by your good news - earlier today I felt super low and started doubting if insemination is even the way to go, so hearing success stories is just a wonderful reminder that it CAN be. It’s exactly what we needed on here! ❤️

Now having said that... i think I might go offline for a bit. We’re heading for a holiday this Sunday for two weeks. I think I need a bit of a digital and ttc detox. My ovulation is going to fall sometime during the trip but we just decided to inseminate whenever we feel up for some sexy time and otherwise destress and just be in the moment - I feel like I really need it. Sending big higs to you all and cant wait to hear all the updates in a couple weeks’ time!

Carol1980 · 25/09/2020 02:05

@Oilyoilyoilgob massive congrats ❤️❤️❤️ totally made up for you xxxx

MrsKin90 · 25/09/2020 07:21

@primrosechill we all need a break sometimes! I hope you have a lovely holiday and a much deserved time out from everything! 😊

Oilyoilyoilgob · 25/09/2020 08:37

@bigblueboots and @Carol1980 and @primrosechill thank you ever so much, I massively appreciate your kindness and it’s made me feel a bit teary from you all. It’s a bloody weird lonely road knowing you’re inseminating to make a baby and I hugely appreciate feeling part of a team 💚

@primrose I’m wishing you a wonderful, destressed holiday and enjoy virtually throwing away your phone. It’ll be so lovely for you both and its what we all need to do-listen to that inner voice for self care 💚 have a wonderful time and I’m pleased my news has given that uplift that it can be done!

My husband warmed the sperm cup on his belly under his top 5 out of the 7 times, first time we’d done that so it was very watery. I also spent at least 20 mins supported under a cushion with legs up (but bum not that high) and brough myself to orgasm those 5 times too (the last two days it wasn’t possible to do either). Not sure if that helps anyone but the difference in the sperm consistency after ten minutes was eye opening!

💚💚

Busybee93 · 25/09/2020 09:11

@Oilyoilyoilgob congratulations! Such wonderful news and I don't know about every body else but fills me with so much confidence that it CAN happen this way! Been feeling super negative this week, so this has really lifted my spirits.

Fingers crossed for a happy and healthy 9 months! GrinStar

Busybee93 · 25/09/2020 09:12

Also interesting RE allowing the sperm to liquify! What about those who conceive during normal intercourse? I'd just assumed you'd need to get it up there ASAP! Will try liquefying tomorrow. Finally got my flashing smiley! SmileSmile

bigblueboots · 25/09/2020 09:42

@Busybee93 We read (at some point during the research phase, I don't remember where at all!) that between 15 and 30 minutes after ejaculation is the best time for the sperm. No idea how accurate it is, but it's what we've been going for!

Oilyoilyoilgob · 25/09/2020 10:13

@Busybee93 thank you so very much 💚☺️ It’s all very surreal but like you all we are delighted that it works, no hint of anything else as there was zero sex or sexual stuff that week! We’d had a busy week work wise so husband did the deed before dinner and then I had the 20-30 mins before dinner. Just a nice relaxed routine.

I also thought that re sperm because obviously during sex it just shoots up! As part of our therapy last year, as part of it was psychosexual, we learned everything about sex organs and how they work-I loved it 🤓 😄the cervix dips for the sperm during orgasm so that’s why I tried my best and those first five days I made sure I had at least one during laying down time.
The sperm was lovely and liquidy (never thought I’d write that sentence!) so maybe it helps more? He just sat with it in the cup with lid by his belly and under his top, and kept it nice and warm. We did this because my husband had been researching it online and thought we’d try it 💚

bigsweetpotato · 25/09/2020 19:41

@Oilyoilyoilgob oh my god wow congratulations!! Happy for you! And all through SI which is absolutely amazing :)

eloiseislost · 26/09/2020 05:19

@Oilyoilyoilgob I'm late to the party, but huge CONGRATULATIONS! AF reared its ugly head 4 days early for me yesterday and I was feeling so low but I just saw your BFP and honestly I feel so much better going into cycle #2! May you have a happy, peaceful pregnancy! SmileStar
