Miscarriage concern

Ok so I'm pregnant and due a 12 week scan on 10 feb. But just had a concern as in August I had a MMC and so I thought all was fine as no spotting or blood etc and went to dating scan and no heartbeat

Cos I'm anxious this could happen again I was thinking to take a preg test the morning of the scan but if I had miscarried but baby was still dead inside me, would a test say positive as I'm still technically carrying a baby?

How does it work with hcg levels, would they still drop even if I have a dead baby inside me due to a MMC?

So sorry I don't know the answer, but it must be horrible to feel so anxious. Would you be able to have a private reassurance scan if you think it would help?

NormaJeantheHippo · 12/01/2020 21:56

@dingdongmer I don't really know if the test would come back positive, but I just wanted to sympathise. I had the same: last 12 week scan we thought everything was fine (even thought it was fine when we saw the scan at first because we didn't know to look out for a heart beat) only to be told baby had died at 11+1. It's horrible Sad. Now pregnant again and 12 week scan is next week which is terrifying. I don't think there's anything to be done but bite the bullet and have the scan tbh.. hope for the best but prepare for the worst just in case. Xx

Norma what date is your scan? Good luck and can u keep me posted how u get on?

Yes the test would still be positive unfortunately. Usually they say it's 2 weeks after a miscarriage is complete to show a negative on a pregnancy test. Did they not get you to test 2 weeks after your MMC?

I've been there and the best thing I did was have a private scan at 7weeks. It cost about £70. I mean it was nerve racking, but not as bad as waiting until 12/13 weeks.

When I had my miscarriage it was at 10 weeks, but later scans showed baby stopped developing at just under 6 weeks. It's horrible to think it's all going ok, when it's not.

Best of luck

I had the same experience as you. If you do a test it will still be positive. Completely understand the scan anxiety and really hope all goes well this time. I was worried at every stage and even bought a heart monitor which I used throughout my pregnancy....

I assume you've had your booking appointment or will be due to have it? I would discuss your anxiety with the midwife who will be delegated to you. My friend had a MMC and is now PG again and has already had two reassurance scans, one at 6 weeks and one at 8 weeks and will be having her 12 week soon. She hasn't had any bleeding or anything and only had one MC in the past but they still have done them for her. So if you discuss your anxiety with the midwife hopefully they will book you in for a reassurance scan. If not then I agree with OP that a private scan would be well worth the money for the reassurance. Good luck xx

@dingdongmer it's on Friday and yes, I will let you know. 🤞 for both of us.

dingdongmer · 13/01/2020 10:15

Hi everyone thanks for replies

I'm having bloods and urine tests this Friday but don't think that's with a midwife, got a midwife appt on Tuesday 21 where they take all my details etc

I've actually booked a private scan for today at 1.25!! So I'll report back afterwards

Hi sorry I'm not much help but best of luck later on. I had a mmc back in may and I'm terrified of next time I get pg and have to go for scans . Fingers crossed for you

NormaJeantheHippo · 13/01/2020 11:24

Good luck today OP xx

dingdongmer · 13/01/2020 14:20

Thanks everyone so had scan and all is good, she saw heartbeat etc and it looks to be 7 weeks 3 days Altho according to my last period on 17 nov I was 8 weeks 1 day. Do u think it matters if it's 1 week back?

Congratulations!

Doesn’t matter at all, the day you ovulate is different in each person and using the date of last period is just an estimate and not always that accurate. Main thing is there’s a heart beat.

dingdongmer · 13/01/2020 16:28

Yes fingers crossed all stays well until next scan on 10 February

Congrats! With DD I was due by dates on 25.6 and then by scan on 5.7! So was 10 days out. She's now a sassy 10 year old. ❤️ LMP dates can be a little off as someone said due to ov dates. Xx
