EllaOne Side Effects

Hi

Has anyone else experienced dodgy side effects with taking the map EllaOne?

I have very very heavy (have to use night time towels constantly) painful periods, lasting 5-6 days and occur ever 32-35 days. I also get Ovulation pains. Both pains are severe, on the right side, sharp, shoot down my leg and also weird vibrations occur. Also alot of pressure felt in my cervix area.

Anyway after my normal period on 23rd Aug, i (stupidly!) had unprotected sex on the 31st Aug. I then took the EllaOne within the time frame on the 2nd Sept. No initial side effects directly after taking it. However by the 9th i started to get cramps going across my lower stomach for a few days on and off and by the 19th i was hideously nauseous. Along with being, tired and bloated. Noted that my usual ovulation cramps didn't kick in around the 12th and put it down to the pill. By the next week still felt the same and no period had come yet so a hpt was taken and it was neg. By the end of Sept i felt so sick i could hardly do anything and smells were making me feel even worse!
However by 3rd Oct i started to bleed - finally! But i lasted barely 3 days and wasn't anything like my normal period and then afterwards the symptoms stopped. But only for 2 days! The sickness, tiredness, cramps and bloating came back with a vengeance along with nipples being really sensitive and sore and lower back ache on occasion! Smells of butter, toast, golden syrup, smoke - all sorts were making me violently retch. Took another hpt on the 8th and it was negative. By the next week i was no better so took another and got a very very faint line. Didn't read into it though. The symptoms carried on into Nov and finally started bleeding again on the second. But again light for me and only 2 and a bit days. Usual period pains didn't come and didn't get any ovulation pain either (the cramps i was getting were not on my right side as usual and not the same kind of pain). I was also getting really hot flushes and i'm a nesh - usually always cold when everyone is hot and wrapped in many layers. But i can go out in vest tops when everyone else is bundled up!
Put it down to my body adjusting to the pill as it messed up my hormones. Except the nausea got worse along with the retching, bloating, heartburn, diarrhoea, B.O, hot flushes, gas (really strong burping - whether i ate or not every time i opened my mouth it was a burp!) and i was tired all the time. Another light round of 3 day bleeding occurred on the 30th Nov. Took another test on 3rd Dec and negative.
By mid Dec nausea was reducing but was also getting aches around my stomach (sort of going round in a curve from my hip to cervix area, around the swell of my stomach), sharp pains shooting up my cervix and aches across my pelvic area. These would come and go randomly. Bled again for 3 days after Christmas.

Currently sickness is severely reduced and comes goes on occasions. I'm hot all the time and bloated! Cramps still appear but not the way they did before this all started, i don't get ovulation pain any more, i bleed ever 27/28 days and for only a max of 3 days and not heavy like it used to be. Still really bloated despite trying to diet. Hpt's negative, Blood test for HCG came back as really low in Dec. Also had an ultrasound and transvaginal ultrasound beginning of Dec which just came up with a Cyst and a tilted womb.
Docs have tested for Menopause, cancer, thyroid, kidneys, liver, bloods, diabetes, chrones, LSH, inflammation, estrogen - all sorts and all fine.

I'm losing the plot here. Has any one else had such bad side effects from the map? I've taken it twice before in the span of 15 years and never had an issue!

P.S Sorry for the essay!

Hi just wondering what the outcome of this was?and if anyone else has had a similar issue? I took Ella one on Monday and now feel like crap! Period arrived (early) weds which I guess is good but such strong cramps and wondering how long it might last? Scary to read someone has had long term problems from it!! I've had lovenelle before with no problem. Tia

I had EllaOne on the 22nd. No initial side effects but on the 23rd and today I’ve had cramps and feel really nauseous. My appetite has gone out of the window too. I’ve been searching online about side effects but can only find info about feeling nauseous immediately after taking it, which I didn’t. This post has scared me, I’m now hoping I don’t have any long lasting effects. My period is due on 5th Dec.

I felt bad for a few days and had like a heavy period but fine now. Just hope next periods will be normal. I will never take that again, had levonelle years ago and didn't experience anything like that!

Hi,

Thank you for sharing about your experience and sorry you had to go through this. May I check, has the bloating eventually gone away?
Thank you.
