False positives?

Hi all

I had a BFP this morning and another this afternoon, however I have since read that the brand I used (One Step Ultra Early from Amazon) is notorious for false positives. Now I feel really deflated and I dont know what to think until I can get hold of a different brand on Saturday.

Anybody had a false positive before?

Congratulations on your BFP! It's very hard to get a false positive. When I found out I was expecting, I used a very cheap Wilkinson's test and once I saw a line got a digital Clear Blue to verify it.

I know it's easier said than done, but please don't worry! X

Thanks both, I thought they were impossible as well, but several of the Amazon reviews say they had false positives Shock

Do they? God I am naive I take everything at face value Blush surely they wouldn't be allowed to keep on producing them if so many have false positives? Keeping my finger crossed x

I have done two Tesco’s own pregnancy tests 4days apart of each other .. negative results within 3 minutes on both but left them in my bag , both now showing quite clear blue plus signs ???
I’ve read a lot about Evaps etc
I am perimenopausal , only started with this in jan , periods are still regular in a sense although have changed ...
I had my last period 27:11:2019 and had some spotting on 13:12:2019... ovulation spotting ? I don’t know 🤷🏻‍♀️ my body temp went up before 13:12:2019 and I’ve remained at this temp , if I didn’t have the spotting I would be past my usual period date ... so did those tests , it’s probs too early but at this juncture ... I don’t know what’s going on lol

I've had false positives on those. Or at least, they very much seemed to be false positives because every other type of test came up BFN. None of which means this isn't a real BFP for you, OP– and I really hope it is– but personally I wouldn't trust it unless confirmed with FRER or similar. Best of luck to you x

Thanks Kell. Have ordered some clear blue to arrive Saturday so will see what happens. Still have 2 left, will do another in the morning biy dont really trust the result now x

I had false positives on Boots’ own brand tests, more of a grey so maybe evaporation lines but definitely looked positive when I wasn’t. I’d advise getting either a Superdrug test (purple dye) or a First Response Early Response test because the pink/purple dyes are less likely to give false positives.

I’ve read so much today about people having Positive results showing hours and hours later and other tests showing negative when they actually were pregnant! I did buy a clear blue early detection which came up negative I did it this afternoon .I have one more left and apparently I shouldn’t be testing until next week , I’ll probably get my period in that perimenopausal fashion before I do that test , I’m 54 and I’ve had my ovaries and womb scanned as I only started with symptoms of this peremenopausal mularky in February last year when I missed a period and since then they’ve been a wee bit later than usual but I’ve still had them but the purpose of the scan was to see if I had any cysts and my results were I’m all healthy in the gear box dept ... that don’t mean I’m fertile either, Arghhhh ... us women don’t half gi through the mill don’t we !

I took 2 tests a morrisons one just before Xmas and a co op one on Xmas day both came up with a faint positive. Every other test plus blood test has come back negative so I'm really confused!! Even worse I feel Pregnant. I have the same symptoms as before and my other half commented tonight at just how horny I am, which is exactly what happened last time I was Pregnant. Thing is after having 4 miscarriages I'd hate to do something and have another one because I wasn't careful or something

I've had a false positive, definitely not an evap as it arrived in time. These were boots own brand. I did a FRER and clearblue the few days after which came up negative. It's not letting me attach a picture unfortunately

I think two false positives would be unlikely- do another in the morning and get a more reliable test to confirm tomorrow.

I've had false positives on the one step... last
Month I was using the same pee and getting one positive and one negative. And that was on more than one occasion. But I've had them be more reliable before so not sure if I had a bad batch.

I didn't realise it was possible to get a false positive as the test responds to HSG which is released when you are pregnant....I once had a very very faint second line but following tests (all FRER) were BFNs so I just assumed it was a chemical pregnancy.....Sad

Today's offering attached. Seems just about positive I think? But lighter than yesterday and still same brand. Limbo is pretty torturous isn't it!

Thanks mooey and kell. I can but have my DD with me who is 8, can read, and I dont really want her to see me buying a pregnancy test as it will open a whole can of worms...haven't said anything to DH yet either as want to be 100% sure. I could go to the pharmacy and send DD to look at hair bobbles while I quickly grab a FRER...might try to do that. Thanks for all your support xx

Hi all, did make it to the pharmacy. Couldn't get a FRER but managed to get another (not well known brand). This is the result. I really dont know as I feel I can see a REALLY faint line but might be seeing things/might be evap or shadow. Was not FMU and the test was 25 miu whereas the others I've done have been 10 miu xx

@bingandflop OP I can see the faint line in today's test too. It looks like it has some pink to it? This was my EXTREMELY faint line today 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ (one was pink edges ?but faint line through and the second was just bottom I think but they're pink and more pinky in person)... I am possibly fooling myself tho and the wait is horrid!!Testing again in the morning Cos I can't help myself 🤣xx
