Dry January

Anyone else doing dry January this month? I could do with some motivation and comradery! I'm on CD2 of cycle 2 ttc #1. Last month was our first try, but tbh it was always going to be a bit unlikely as my TWW fell right over Christmas and NY, and I fully enjoyed myself and ate and drank a LOT 😂 This month I'm doing dry January, both for my general health and also to possibly improve my chances of conceiving this month. I'm not a midweek drinker, but I have a feeling Friday and Saturday nights will be tricky once I'm back at work! Anyone want to join me on this thread for a bit of support?

I am planning to start after my final hurrah tomorrow as we are away for a night with friends! I'm the same I want to have a break for health reasons as I've drank so much over this festive period but I also want to be a bit kinder to my body whilst trying to conceive! My Fitbit tracker tells me today I day 1 of fertile period so we've started DTD hence I'll enjoy one last drink tomorrow before ovulation (predicted Tuesday)
Will be good to have some support!!

BabyDancer · 02/01/2020 17:45

I'm doing Dry January too! I'm about to go into my TWW for cycle 1 TTC #1.

I'm not a big drinker anyway, but like you I do enjoy a drink or two on a Friday and Saturday night. I don't think I'll find it too difficult (fingers crossed).

Newbie0818 · 02/01/2020 17:54

I’m doing dry January too, although I’m not such a big drinker anyhow Gin this is cycle 2 of ttc and I’m currently on CD6 of a 33 day cycle (according to the Flo app- anyone else used it?). Last month I was hopeful but because i didn’t know how long my cycle was I was a week early on everything, so this month I’ve got ov packs and dtd every two days haha, the whole shabang!

I guess the possibility of a bfp will keep us going dry this January! (Well, on the drinking anyhow... Blush) good luck ladies!

MGee123 · 02/01/2020 18:06

🙋‍♀️ I finished a bottle of champagne which 'needed drinking' last night and am now committed to dry January a day late 🤦‍♀️

Mostly to hopefully help with conceiving. I'm 30 and we've been trying for our first baby since September. I had the mirena coil taken out in August and have had irregular cycles since, except last month which was 28 days, so I'm hoping things are settling down. I haven't had any positive OPKs yet but am optimistic for 2020🤞

Currently looking longingly at a nice bottle of red and reminding myself it will all be worth it..!

Hi @newmum2020 @BabyDancer @Newbie0818 and @MGee123! Thanks for joining me!

I had the worst hangover yesterday and we had family round for dinner, they were all drinking and I couldn't face it but I didn't mind actually!

I miscarried in November 4 weeks after I found out I was pregnant so I know I can give up booze no problem and as others have said I know it'll be worth it ☺️

bluemoon2468 · 02/01/2020 21:03

@newmum2020 yeah at this point I'm just relieved to have a break from drinking! Might be a bit harder later in the month! So sorry to hear about your miscarriage 😔 was that your first pregnancy?

OP posts:
Lilice · 02/01/2020 21:31

I had the worst hangover yesterday too and spent the whole day in bed... I'm bad. I should probably do dry January as well, not sure I have enough will power though

MGee123 · 02/01/2020 21:48

So sorry about your miscarriage @newmum2020 . Are you trying for your first baby?

I don't drink huge amounts but do drink regularly (if that makes any sense!). I'm kind of glad of the dry January excuse - at least it will stop the awkward 'are you pregnant' jokes/looks! My mum is literally desperate for any sign I might be producing grandchildren! 🙄

I think getting over the hurdle of the first weekend will help. And breaking the Christmas habit!

bluemoon2468 · 02/01/2020 21:58

@MGee123 yes! I feel you on the 'are you pregnant?' front. Since I got married I feel like I have to follow up with 'I'm not pregnant' every time I turn down a drink. I've been intentionally driving to places just so that I can use that as my 'excuse' when I don't feel like drinking. Will be refreshing to just be able to day I'm doing dry Jan!

I'm doing dry January! I did it last year and felt great, saved money and didn't miss it as much as I thought I would. The Friday night glass of wine was all I missed really

newmum2020 · 02/01/2020 22:11

Thanks @bluemoon2468 @MGee123 yes it was first pregnancy. We weren't actively 'trying' as such. I came off the pill earlier in the year due to high blood pressure and we used condoms for a while. The first time we DTD without protection I fell pregnant!! It was a shock to find out and we just got used to the idea then I lost the baby 😢however it has made me sure I definitely want to be a mum now....I just hope I'm not too crazy with the trying and symptom spotting etc!

newmum2020 · 02/01/2020 22:12

@Lilice haha I don't feel so bad now!!

Newbie0818 · 03/01/2020 09:29

@bluemoon2468 and @MGee123 omg the “are you pregnant” thing is so annoying! I’m 26 and we got married in 2018, dh is 28 and I swear we are being “watched” for any signs of a pregnancy ALL the time haha! What’s worse is my 13 yo cousin found folic acid in my bathroom and told my aunt and I’ve had to come up with a whole iron deficiency anaemia sort of excuse 😂 they’ll die when I‘M eventually able to tell them why I’m really taking it.

Newbie0818 · 03/01/2020 09:30

So sorry to hear that @newmum2020 fx for your next bfp x

bluemoon2468 · 03/01/2020 10:12

@Newbie0818 😆 Most of our close friends and family know we're trying, which makes the pregnancy spotting even worse! The only people who we haven't told are my in-laws, as they think we should be waiting until we're in our 30s and own a house before starting a family (we're in our mid-late 20s). When we fall pregnant and tell them I'm just going to act like it wasn't planned 😂

bluemoon2468 · 03/01/2020 10:14

@newmum2020 what an emotional rollercoaster 😔 I'm sure things will happen for you soon as you fell pregnant so quickly the first time ❤

OP posts:
Newbie0818 · 03/01/2020 10:29

Good shout @bluemoon2468 haha. We weren’t originally going to try until next year once we’ve (hopefully) managed to finish saving up for a home, but I got impatient. Plus you never know how long things will take, nobody ever told me getting pregnant was such an ordeal! People seem to just pop them out all the time around us Shock

newmum2020 · 03/01/2020 10:38

@bluemoon2468 @Newbie0818 thank you 😊 fingers crossed for us all 🥰dry January starts after today for me girls. I'm hoping this is my last drink for a long time actually 😆😁

MGee123 · 03/01/2020 12:52

We haven't told anyone we're trying but we got married mid 2019 and it does feel a bit like everyone is on the look out! One of my best friend is pregnant at the moment and I was going to talk about TTC with them, but the timing doesn't feel quite right so I haven't said anything yet. I'm really excited for her but am (in all honesty) a bit jealous. Fingers crossed it will be our turn soon!

I've made myself designated driver for all social events this month so that should help. Only problem is my OH doesn't really drink 🤦‍♀️😂 Hopefully between us we'll cover it alright!

lucymagoo · 03/01/2020 13:02

@MGee123 I know what you mean, we got married late 2019 and feel as though everyone is expecting us to announce a pregnancy any day. I had a virus in December and got a lot of raised eyebrows when I said I wasn't feeling well and wasn't drinking. Had to pull out the accompanying rash to prove I really was just unwell!

bluemoon2468 · 03/01/2020 13:07

@Newbie0818 tell me about it. Women in my family tend to get pregnant really quickly and have lots of children, so much so that there's a joke that the women in out family get pregnant so easily they don't even seem to need a man to be involved 😆 Almost everyone has got pregnant either whilst using contraception or on the first month of trying. It puts a lot of pressure on 🙈

We were going to wait until we bought a house as well, but tbh there's never a perfect time to have a baby! I always try to remind myself that I'll never look back in 10 years time and wish my child hadn't been born, but if I put off trying then I might regret not starting earlier!

OP posts:
Newbie0818 · 03/01/2020 15:19

Exactly @bluemoon2468 never a perfect time. I guess it just happens when it does, but it would help a lot if people weren’t “waiting” for us to announce it like you said haha. I was in my tww over Xmas so didn’t want to drink just in case and I definitely got a few raised eyebrows! And I get what you’re saying @MGee123 I really feel envious of any of my friends who announce their happy news. It’ll be our turn soon though, like you said.

MGee123 · 03/01/2020 19:47

Totally agree - I don't think there is ever a 'good' time. We bought a house 2 years ago and there still hasn't been a good time since then!! We decided we'd just take the plunge 🤷‍♀️

I've been going running a lot this week as I've been off work - finding it helpful to keep me occupied. I've also been reading a good book. I do find this TTC business takes over my thoughts. Not necessarily in an anxious/stressed way, but just in an excessive way!

bluemoon2468 · 04/01/2020 11:30

Had my first dry January challenge yesterday! Went out for my friend's birthday and everyone was drinking - sat there with my diet coke like 🙄 Wasn't too bad though, and the dry January excuse definitely helped with everyone not thinking I was pregnant!
