Can you ovulate without having periods?

This might sound completely ridiculous, I just find this all quite confusing.
If I were to go a few months without having a period, is it possible that I may still be ovulating each month?
Reason that I ask is because my last period was Nov 18th. I was due for my period on 17th Dec and it never came. My next period would have been due on Jan 16th so I would normally have ovulated around today or tomorrow and I've had twinges in my right ovary and ov cramps, lots of symptoms of ovulation. Could I have ovulated despite not having had a normal period? I'm on CD45.

I think quite often our periods can be that late if we have a cycle where we don't ovulate, I don't think you can ovulate but miss a period, unless you miss it as you are pregnant. Xx

@sarahc336 I mean in the sense that if I didn't ovulate last month which caused me to miss my period, and I am due on the 16th of this month, would I ovulate as normal this month, and then get AF on the 16th? xx

No. You're just having longer cycles. Are they normally regular and the same length?

stillhangingon · 01/01/2020 20:50

@kimadey yep regular periods, never miss one. They're 28-32 days xx

I've had two or so cycles this year where my period has lasted 3 days, other than that my average is 4-5 days

@stillhangingon seems odd then. Have you done a pregnancy test?

stillhangingon · 01/01/2020 21:02

@kimadey I gave up considering I was pregnant and did my last test on the 27th, 5 days ago.
I've had on and off cramping since my estimated ov date which was the 3rd December, 4 weeks ago?
I had extreme fatigue, needing to wee every two hours, all the symptoms of pregnancy all of which have stopped now. Xx

Tell a lie, I've actually logged cramps starting from just after my period ended on the 18th Nov!! Which is unusual for me in itself, as I only cramp before and during AF, and then nothing until ov x

Very confusing. I'd give it a week or so and then maybe see your GP if you get worried. X

Yes you can as I got pregnant without one. Last period sometime in August, found out I was pregnant in June.

I suppose I would've got one the month I got pregnant, but for obvious reasons didn't happen.

stillhangingon · 01/01/2020 22:12

@PanicAndRun how far along were you when you found out?

8 weeks and 4 days I think, it was quite a while ago. Obviously i missed way more periods than you have.

Well you can ovulate without getting a period but it'll be followed by either a pregnancy or a period. I'm you don't ovulate and get neither. I had a 87 day cycle last cycle. I had a scan just before my period which indicated I may have ovulated (before my period about 10 days) but I had lost count of how many positive OPK I'd done. It was my body gearing up to ovulating then not managing it.

Incidentally you can have a period and still not ovulate... having a period doesn't mean you ovulate either. It can just be a build up of lining that you shed. I'm sure this isn't the case for you as you sound like you have been regular until that point.

stillhangingon · 02/01/2020 09:11

@mycrazylife85 ah so my body may have been trying to ovulate and then failing throughout the cycle. This may explain the cramping throughout my cycle? I've always had cramps before and after ov. And the fact that obviously AF hasn't arrive in so long xx

@stillhangingon it sounds very likely. The last cycle I had was so so long and I did mark on my Flo app a number of times cramping. Also had EWCM and positive OPKs on a number of occasions but never ovulated... (until the last time obviously ☺️) then it finally arrived.
