Breastfeeding and TTC

Hey! Has anyone got any positive conception stories while breastfeeding? When I’ve looked online it always talks about periods taking longer to return but I’ve had 3 postpartum periods and they’re starting to regulate now (I’m nearly 6 months postpartum.)
Does anyone think I’ve got a good chance of conceiving again in the next few months?
Any advice/ tips or stories would be awesome. Thank you! Xx

If your period has returned and is fairly regular then yes, you stand a good chance. With DC1 my periods didn't return until after I finished feeding which was fine as we weren't planning DC2 (I fell pregnant with DC2 immediately after my periods returned). Unfortunately we want DC3 but my periods still haven't returned so I doubt that'll happen anytime soon.

Hello! I am currently TTC number 2 so no positive stories for you yet but just wanted to say hello as I am currently still feeding my 21 month old LG. My periods returned quite quickly as we had feeding issues at the beginning but they were irregular until she was around 12 months and since then they've evened out, although my cycle is shorter now than they were before I had her.
I think as long as you are having periods then you can get pregnant - that's why the midwives are so adamant to talk about birth control even straight after you've given birth! So I would think you'd be OK.
Maybe try taking your temperature or using OPKs to figure out when you're ovulating, because if your cycles are irregular it might be tricky to work out!

I'm still breastfeeding my 18mo. We have just conceived #2 in our first month TTC. (#1 was 1st month too so we might just be very lucky...)

Mommybear05 · 03/01/2020 20:14

Congratulations peanutty!
Just wanted to say hi. I’m in the same boat. First child. 13 mo pp. still no ppaf!
You have a regular period so I’d say that’s a very good sign! Smile

Sammyclaire22 · 03/01/2020 20:24

In the same boat! Only bf 1 or 2 times a day now for my 17mo and I've had regular periods about 6 months now. 3rd cycle ttc no2 now!
If we reach 6 cycles I might wean to see if that helps. X

Mamahannah2019 · 07/01/2020 10:38

@pumpandthump thank you for replying! Yes I've had 3 periods in 5 months. The last 2 have been consecutive so I'm really hoping it works out ok and happens for us. X

@SoulMama18 hey! Thank you for replying. A big hello from me too, that's what I'm thinking. I'm going to get some OPKs just to check I'm ovulating and just hope for the best and DTD lots at the right times. Hope you're all ok xxxx

We conceived whilst I was breastfeeding. Number 1 was 15 months old when we conceived.
Good luck

Mamahannah2019 · 07/01/2020 10:43

@Peanutty86 CONGRATULATIONS! Can I ask if your periods returned and were consistent? I'm hoping for the best. I've had 3 periods in 5 months. 2 of them have been consecutive, cross fingers x

@Mommybear05 I'm crossing my fingers for us both! Xxx

@Sammyclaire22 hey! We have officially decided to start trying this month. My baby is still really young but I'm keen for a close age gap if possible. TTC is so stressful though isn't it xxx

@avocadoincident hey! Thank you for commenting! If you don't mind me asking did you have regular periods while feeding? Congratulations too by the way xxx

@Mamahannah2019 they had returned 6 months pp, but I've always been very irregular so they ranged from anything between 31 to 47.

Sammyclaire22 · 07/01/2020 13:30

@Mamahannah2019 id like around 2 years between them but expecting it might take a while, if it happens at all! Good to hear that having regular periods should mean bf isn't a barrier- I'm temping and using opks so I know I'm def ovulating.

Mamahannah2019 · 07/01/2020 17:41

@Sammyclaire22 yeah my last two periods have been bang on time so cross fingers it means I'm ovulating and things are all working down here. 🤞🏻 I need to do what you're doing and try some OPK's x

Opened this thread to see if my experience helped. Probably not as I didn't get my period back till nearly 2 years pp, but did then conceive while still bf on the 3rd cycle.

I have heard that it can take a few cycles to settle down, eg the luteal phase might be a bit too short at first. Good luck, hope you aren't waiting too long.

Sammyclaire22 · 07/01/2020 20:09

@Mamahannah2019 depends how involved you want to get I guess! If you are regular then tracking your cm might be enough for now? I only do the whole shebang as oh works shifts and we have medical issues that will mean it's harder. So I have to try to make sure we manage at least a couple of sessions in my fw to have some hope!

Vuduvu · 22/06/2020 14:45

Hello, just wondering how those on this thread are doing with TTC? Hope you've all been successful :)

I've been TTC the last 2 cycles whilst breastfeeding my 15 month old, both times have had a late period (4 or 5 days) whereas the previous cycles since period restarted in Feb had been my usual 27-28 days. Didn't test so now wondering if could have been chemical pregnancy/very early MC... anyone with any similar experiences??
