How long does the pill take to leave your system?

I know theoretically you can get pregnant the day you stop taking it but is the general consensus that it takes a while to get out of your system? Does it depend on how long you've taken it for?

I took it for 2 years and I got pregnant the moment I came off it however it ended in miscarriage I am pregnant again after 6 months off getting of the pills I suggest give yourself atleast 3-6months before trying

I’ve heard it’s best to use condoms fir 3 months after first coming off the pill to let your system settle before a pregnancy.

I fell pregnant the first month before even having AF with our three children. We're now ttc number 4 and it's almost 5 months since I stopped taking the pill.

I stopped the pill after 9 years, fell pregnant 6 weeks later but ended in a chemical pregnancy... so i think its better to use another form of contraception for 3 months

I didn't have a period for 8 months after stopping the pill.

Pinkbonbon · 28/12/2019 07:08

My period came back after two weeks, then I had two more normal periods after that, then they vanished. It's been over 4 months now and still no sign lol. So potentially takes a long time for your system to re-adjust.

Both times I came off the pill I conceived pretty much straight away. (1 month and 2 months). The first baby was after 11 years on the pill so my experience suggests a sort of rebound fertility.

I fell pregnant straight after stopping the pill but ended in missed miscarriage

Beau2019 · 29/12/2019 13:05

I feel pregnant 3rd cycle after stopping.

kingkuta · 29/12/2019 13:08

My GP told me to be really careful when I came off the pill as when you first stop taking them you are really fertile.

strawberry2017 · 29/12/2019 13:11

The first time it took 6 months before my periods got them self in to a proper routine, the second time I think it was 3 months.
One thing i did realise was before I conceived both times the period just before it happened was totally random and out of character and then the next month it happened!

It's not so much of the issue of 'the pill leaving your system' as 'your system re-learning how to cycle without the interference of artificial hormones.' Think of it like a drug addict: after stopping the drugs, the body goes through some pretty extreme (in some cases) effects in order to function without that chemical it was dependent on... hormones are exactly the same and it can take awhile for your body to figure out.

A finer point of distinction, I know. But an important one.
