Ttc alcohol consumption

Hi 😊 For a bit of context, I'm new to ttc - my husband and I have just made the switch from doing everything we can to prevent pregnancy for over a decade, to actively 'trying'. We're both in our late 20s and I'm currently 9dpo on my first month of trying. I have been using the Natural Cycles app as a method of contraception for years so I'm very familiar with my cycle, which is very regular.

My question, following a week of relatively heavy festive drinking, is about alcohol consumption when ttc. Christmas aside, my husband and I are mild-moderate drinkers. We generally don't drink at all during the week, but will have 2-3 glasses of wine most Friday and Saturday nights. We rarely get completely smashed... probably once every few months.

My general inclination is to carry on with life as normal so as not to put stress or strain on this part of our journey to parenthood. I also enjoy a social drink, and anticipating 9 months tee-total I'm not really keen to extend that longer than is necessary! But I'm feeling worried that my drinking this month might have scuppered our chances at a successful pregnancy this time round. I guess my questions are... how much do/did you drink when ttc? Has anyone tried cutting out alcohol, and have you found this made any difference to your success ttc? TIA x

Hi Blue! I'm similar as we've just started to try this month. I've just ovulated a few days ago and have been enjoying a few drinks over Christmas!
I've never actively tried to conceive before (I have two DCs who were from me mucking up contraceptive!) so I have been wondering the same!

I think I'm inclined to just carry on, I'm not a huge drinker these days but will normally have a couple over the weekend. It seems really bad at this time of year and it's constant I think!

I had planned to try and keep drinking to a minimum as much as possible this month, but then I wanted to enjoy myself and so I sort of gave up 🙈 I think a large part of it is that if I am really controlled and do everything I'm supposed to to maximise fertility, and then I don't get pregnant that month anyway, I'll feel so annoyed with myself that I missed out on enjoying Christmas to the full for nothing!

OP, not sure if this is a coincidence, but last 3 cycles I did drink ( social drinking few cocktails or few glasses of wine at weekends), there was also a couple of times more than just a few... Result- faint positives, never got any darker and eventually Af...
This month I totally eliminated alcohol and each morning drank spinach, kale and avocado smoothies to help the fertility. Christmas Eve we had a faint positive at only 7 DPO. Now, 48h later - the line is getting darker as it should. Still worries that AF will come, but I think so far our chances are much stronger than the previous months.
