Were you actually using the contraception properly - eg taking your pill every day, using condoms correctly etc. or did you know you might have an increased risk of contraception failure for some reason.

I have been reading some threads and the numbers of unplanned pregnancies are much higher than I would imagine, so I'm curious really to know how so many come about. My thoughts are that for most of these people still took known risks, but it is hard to tell for sure.

I had an unplanned pregnancy two years ago when the condom split, took MAP and that didn't work either. Sadly miscarried at 7 weeks

CarGirl · 23/08/2007 20:28

unplanned pregnancy, he didn't use the condom properly I guess, I took MAP now have a dd.

One of the girls I house shared with had a condom split within a week, also took MAP, also was pregnant but terminated.

At that time in my life I was very stressed and had a high metabolism (lost too much weight, and my mate also naturally had a high metabolism and I've often wondered if that makes MAP less affective.

I've had 2 unplanned pg's (my first was planned). DS2 I was taking the pill - but had missed a few, was being pretty relax as nothing was actually happening in the bedroom in that department so didn't see the risk.........until I got drunk one night and it actually happened. We'd been "thinking" about no.2 so we just went with "the flow" (ie didnt' take MAP) -

3yrs later we'd been using condoms almost religiously so, NO plans for another at ALL, a bit too much of the old whisky and wine (not mixed I hasten to add) and "oops"....I'd taken a MAP less than 10hrs later.......and now have a lovely 13week old DS3 .

My cousin fell pg while on the pill (taking them religiously). My mum fell pg with me 6 weeks after having the coil fitted!

Dh still convinced ds2 was an immaculate conception as we were using condoms as per the instructions with no obvious malfunction such as tearing. I wasn't really ready to be pg again but on the other hand would probably never have been as I think FAR too much about everything so a surprise was best and he is a joy

dd1 - was on pill but as a drunken student forgot it fairly regularly

dd2 - planned

dc - was using condoms but got pissed and didnt bother one night, miscarried at 6 1/2 weeks

dc3 - planned

im crap with contraception, after this one im having the implant as i cant forget it

divastrop · 23/08/2007 21:55

i was using condoms(well,xp was)as per instructions, and there were no obvious 'accidents' when i conceived dd1.ds1 was only 3 months old when i found out i was expecting again.i hadnt even had a period.

with ds2 i took the MAP too late,i think.thankfully

only dd3 was officially 'planned'.i had my coil removed just as af was finishing and got a bfp 4.5 weeks later.

so the only real contraception failure i had was the condom(other 2 dc were 'oops i letf the jonny in my handbag as i was totally rat-arsed' situations).

Pinkchampagne · 23/08/2007 21:58

With DS1 I was on the mini pill, but knew that on one occassion I had taken it a whole 6 hours late, which resulted in DS1.
With DS2 I was on the combination pill & had taken it correctly, but had a bad spell of IBS which obviously interferred with my pill - hence DS2!

MissusH · 24/08/2007 10:12

I was on the pill with dd, but did take a course of antibiotics for a dodgy wisdom tooth infection so think maybe they naffed things up

Was totally traumatised when the bfp came through (cried for an hour in the bathroom)...

When I finally calmed down enough to tell dp (now dh) his first words were "thank goodness for that!" as he thought somebody had died or something He was dead chuffed and there was never any doubt about what to do next.

DD is now 5 so we are now ttc dc2

This pregnancy was unplanned.

We were one of the 0.8% of people who the condom splits on.

My friend got pregnant while on the pill, using a condom, in her most infertile period, while breast feeding and the one time she had had sex in six months. She then went on to bleed almost continuously for the whole pregnancy and several time thought she had miscarried. We expect great things of her dd - she is obviously most definitely MEANT TO BE HERE!!!!!
