TTC for number 2. How soon is too soon??

Have gorgeous, adorable daughter, 4months. Am nearly 36 and we're thinking sooner rather than later for number 2 and were going to start TTC quite soon. But then read somewhere you should wait 6 months..also thinking mentally, pyschologically, can I cope with 1 year old and baby - anyone done, doing the same?

if you feel fine physically, I see no reason why you should wait There are benefits and disadvantages to having two close together.

DS is 6mo and am 36 nxt month, we're going to start trying soon too. I just love being a mum and i do want them fairly close together. we'd like 3, but have decided that if we're lucky enough to conceive again this/nxy yr, then no.3 would be a lucky addition in a few years. Friend of mine has 3yr old dd, pg due oct and said she wished she'd had them close together. I feel if you're doing one nappy... ...maybe see you on antenatal thread in a few months!

I had a 14 month and 2 day gap, it was fine I figured 14 months was the minimum gap I was prepared to have and fell pregnant 1st try!!!!!!!!!

I think physically you are ideally supposed to give the body a year to 18 months to recover from pg and childbirth. Practically and emotionally, everyone probably has a different 'ideal' age gap. I originally got pg when ds was 13 months, but sadly miscarried. Happily, ds is now 2.3 and no. 2 is imminent. I would have found a gap smaller than 2 years (give or take a couple of months) too small, I think, and am even bricking it a bit about this gap We have an idea about having 4 eventually, though - 2 now and 2 later. Time will tell if we stick to that or would rather stop at 2

I had a 17 month gap between my first two kiddies and 13 months between the second and third. the smaller gap was a lot better for me mentally and physically. When theres such a small gap you don't get the time to feel tired, honest! I guess if you feel well enough in yourself then go for it. You might not fall straight away....

Wow thanks everyone! (Am new to Mumsnet - so wondered if anyone would reply!) Am feeling much better and more confident about it now after reading your replies. I was thinking along the same lines...doing same activities going to school close together. And also DD possibly won't get the evils as much being that young??

And yes it may take longer than I think...although we were very lucky first time. Well done Cargirl! Choolie will keep an eye out for you on threads!

Hello GA & Choolie - hopefully I'll see you on the antenatal threads too, ds is 6 months and we're trying for no.2.... have been trying for 6 weeks or so but had my period 2 weeks ago so not 1st time lucky as it was with ds!
Both dh and I have siblings really close in age - his sister is 10 months older than him (gulp), and my bro is 13 months older than me. Both of us loved having sibs so close in age. My mum tells me the first couple of years is very hard work, but then it is fab.

15mnths between my first 2, and there will be 2.1yrs between DD2 and the baby.

its not as hard as i thought it would be, yes the girls fight, but they also adore each other and play with the same toys etc.

tbh, dreading DD2's reaction to the baby more than anything, she has been so used to being the "baby"
